If I'm in the army and I want to use my own side arm can I(even if I just own one but haven;t been issued one)? I assume there's a plan that allows you to use your own weapon if you've been issued a side arm because the M.Ps. can carry thier side arms and they're just as army as anyone else.

MPs, while they may be Army, are in a unique situation. To the best of my knowledge, they are very similar to civilian police officers, serving as peace officers, only in a military setting. Just as regular citizens cannot carry side arms when walking down the street, anyone who is not an MP cannot lawfully carry a weapon on their own accord. The entire purpose of MPs is to maintain law and order, therefore they need the appropriate tools to do that job. Besides, why do you need a gun? They need it to do their job.
