USMC Future of Warfare Video

We have failed somewhere along the route if we need an Infanteer with a LM aiming for a 20km shot

Trading distance for time...

The gunner doesn't fly the LOITERING Munition directly to a target 20 km away.
The gunner flies the LOITERING Munition over head in a 2 km radius circle for 20 minutes at 1 km per minute.
Sometime during that 20 minutes of flight time a viable target is identified and the LOITERING Munition is dispatched to the target.
If no target is identified before the round runs dry then the round can be returned to base.
If a buddy's LOITERING Munition identifies a viable target 20 km away then you can launch a direct strike against his target in mutual support.

These are still operating within the spatial parameters of a Battalion equipped with 8x 5 km 81mm mortars, an assortment of 2 to 5 km ATGMs and a recce platoon. In other words, the existing Combat Support Company.

You can break your 24 gunners of the ATGM Platoon into Groups, Sections, Teams, Dets or Individuals. You can concentrate them under the CO or distribute them down to the Section Leaders. You can have some or all of them armed with Javelins, or Carl Gustafs or the latest GI Loitering Munition.

With 8x 5 km mortars I can cover a 20 km front. I can augment that coverage with 5 km Javelins and 20 km LMs.

None of that requires involving the Supporting Arms although their help would no doubt be welcome.
