Easter 1917. After 3 years of bloody stalemate, a major turning point was achieved in the First World War. For the first time ever, an allied advance would end victoriously, holding the high ground for good against the Germans.

Twice before, both the French and the British had tried to seize Vimy Ridge from the Germans, only to fail with losses of over 200 000 men between themselves. When Canadians were given the task, they were expected to suffer a similar fate. Instead, Canadians scored a major success.

This great achievement was the result of the hard work and planning of extraordinary men of remarkable courage. This is their story.
