Vancouver tells smokers to butt out at parks, beaches

Marijuana is far less dangerous (and less addictive) than cigarette smoke, as seen by a quite reputable study done by the UK Medical Journal:

From my copy of The Canadian Guide to Drugs and Supplements which is put out by Readers Digest and the Canadian Pharmacists Association for the effects of Cannabis:

Short-term effects: In small doses it promotes a feeling of relaxation, well-being, enhanced auditory/visual perception/talkativeness. In some individuals it may have little or no effect.

Under the influence of the drug, short-term memory may be impaired and driving and coordination are disrupted. Confusion, emotional distress, and loss of sense of time may be effected. Hallucinations may occur in rare cases. Smoking cannabis may affect a person from one-three hours and up to 12 hours if eaten. However, reaction times may be slowed up to 24 hours after a single use of the drug so that driving may be impaired without the person being aware of it.

Long-termed effects and use: ...increases risk of bronchitis and lung cancer. Regular users may become apathetic and lethargic, and neglect their work or studies and personal appearance. In susceptible people heavy use may trigger depression or psychotic illness such as schizophrenia.

Cannabis use may increase the heart rate and lower blood pressure, meaning people with heart disorders may be at risk.  Regular use may reduce fertility rates in both men and women and if used by women while pregnant may result in premature births.

Not exactly harmless like you would believe.

Nobody said or even implied harmless.  Heck, water or oxygen in the wrong doses can be lethal.

As Vern said though, there is apparently already a thread on here about Cigs vs Joints, and there are hundreds of studies online.

Yes, and she was nice enough to post the link. We can go there or may be these two threads can be merged.

Good. Ban it totally.
While I'm a smoker I'm sure I would survive. Not to mention stricter rules forces the kids to buy it in shady places.

....just coinvince the students that your son daughter is a "rat" and you'll have a non smoking child.
