I do not believe the Armouries for Homeless is a recent phenomena. I vaguely recall that ten plus years ago, some armouries, i.e Moss Park in Toronto, were used or considered as temporary emergency shelters. It is unfortunate this is a recurring theme to be faced on a annual basis. As was suggested by Dav in a earlier post, there is some merit in converting some of the other public buildings such as schools, hospitals, etc., into such winter or more permanent accomodations. Then again, who would staff such facilities and the ever present question of funding is an issue.
