ok so I finished all my tests and now I‘m waiting for my file to come back from borden.

My question is, what are the people at borden looking over in my file? just to see if I‘m suitable or something?

Your question is a bit vague because the part 3 of the medical is conducted in Borden and then sent back to the CFRC. After that is completed, you file is then merit listed or sent to the board. This is also done in Borden.

If your file is complete then Borden is looking at your suitability for the MOC that you have chosen. They are the ones who make the decisions on whether or not you become a member of the CF.

They evaluate all the information they have obtained about you from the CFAT scores, the fitness test, the interview, your personal references, and anything else that they know about you positive or negative.

They then assign you a merit score based on their criteria and how you fit into it. Assume that the merit listing scores range from 1-10, 10 being the best. They hire people from a Canada wide list of potential candidates, starting with all those who earned a 10 and then going backwards from there.
If you have a very low merit score in a popular trade, you might have to wait for a really long time.
You don‘t get to know what your merit score is (as far as I know) but you should have a pretty good idea of what it is in terms of poor/average-above average/ and superior.
You can assume that you‘re going to get in for sure if you know that you‘re in the superior range.
Probably most people get in from the above average range, and some from the average, as long as there is big intakes for that trade (ie combat arms, and the Navy).

If your score is so poor that it is certain that you will never receive an offer, they tell you so even before the file goes to Borden.

The wateing can take a long time. So far I have waited 4 months to hear back from borden.

I was told 3-6 weeks to hear back from them. hahahh ya right.

Graeme, you need to clarify your question. You are applying for Reserves and I‘m guessing that the responses above are under the asumption that you are applying for Reg Force.

Have you completed your intreview? Because unless things have changed, your "selection board" would be at your unit, not at a selection board that all candidates (nationally) are placed before.

Now, under my assumptions that it is your medical file in Borden you are asking about, they are checking the results of your medical assessment and any additional documents you might have had to fill out (ie: forms that your family doctor had to fill out). Their conclusions will result in you being found medically sound for military service, or rejected for military service due to some medical condition. In the case of a rejection, you could likely do some follow-up on it (ie: more documents from your doctor) in an effort to get that ruling overturned. I‘m told that on average the medicals take about 4 to 5 weeks to be returned from Borden (assuming no problems arise).

Hope this helps to answer your question.

I guess thats the company line to possible recruits. I‘ve been waiting almost three months and I‘m prepared to wait much longer than that. :warstory:

LOL I waited 4 months before I got anything, but I hounded the **** out of my recuiting office, and the MCO in charge of my file. Needless to say I finally got my phone call, and am going to basic quite soon. I can already taste the mud and sweat, oh and you might be stuck waiting (like I had to) becuase the CAF had to wait to get more money from the gov‘n to be able to put more ppl through BCT and what ever else, but they‘ve already got thier new supply of money to spend on recuits like us so just be paitient I know its hard trust me we all had to do it but they will call you.
:mg: :blotto:

Who do you call to speak with about your application? I just completed my interview today and he told me to expect a call in teh next 2-4 weeks and that I should call "them." Is he referring to himself, the recruiting office, or the place where i originally went to get specific information on the MOC I chose?

If you don‘t receive a call during the time frame then call the 1-800 number or the CFRC‘s main line. Ask to talk to the processing clerk in charge of your file. If you get the voicemail, leave a message with your name, contact number, and your question. Someone should get back to you.

You also could have asked them for a contact name and phone number after your interview.

I don‘t know if my experience was typical, but after the interview the Captain who did it gave me his business card, and I was in fairly regular communication with him (once weekly) until I ironed out some fairly minor details with my application.

I phoned the fileing clerk about my file and it sounded like all they could tell me was that is was in secondary medical stage, and that it could take up to 6 weeks.

How Do I get them to push it along faster?

Just be patient guys, I had to wait 1 year! Mainly because the MOC I wanted closed off when my file was sent away...so wait around a year :-( but it‘s all good now, leave for basic in 10 days!

I‘m preaty sure theres nothing you can do to get them to push your or process you file any faster then they‘re going to take. Patients here is a virtue

A year is a normal waiting period for sure. Its too bad they can‘t move higher numbers through but dems the breaks
