I find it odd that there have been virtually no news reports referring to this operation, or to Canadian forces in Kandahar generally, since shortly after the beginning of the operation. The last news item referring to it specifically was May 27.
Since there were embedded journalists with the forces, it is unusual for there to be no news of any sort, including the usual "human interest" pieces that come out when nothing more is happening. Since the operation started with a lot of coverage, the silence is unusual. There are several reports of fighting in the region, with casualties inflicted on the Taliban, but no mention of anything other than Afghan and "ISAF" forces.
Does anyone have an idea why the news appears to be so muffled? Or are there OPSEC issues at play (which didn't seem to apply to any other, earlier, operations of this sort)?
