Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) administers a Call for Proposals under the federal government's Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) Research and Technology Initiative (CRTI). The Program, administered through DRDC's Centre for Security Science (CSS), is designed to strengthen, through investments in science and technology (S&T), Canada's ability to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from a CBRNE event.

Defence R&D Canada (DRDC) is an agency of the Department of National Defence. DRDC Ottawa is one of nine centres within the national organization. With over 60 years of experience in scientific research and development of applied technology, DRDC Ottawa is a leader in Radio Frequency (RF) and information technologies for Defence communication, radar, electronic warfare (EW) and information operations (IO) applications.

The Technology Exploitation Office (TEO) of DRDC Ottawa enhances the delivery of the DRDC Ottawa-developed technologies, services and advanced development models to its client by licensing technologies to organizations capable of manufacturing and/or commercializing them.

Defence Research and Development Canada - Ottawa (DRDC Ottawa) has developed a number of technologies that have achieved a Technology Readiness Level of 6 or greater. DRDC Ottawa is interested in licensing these technologies to private sector organizations that have the capacity, capability and enough interest to commercialize them.

AWARD
It is the intent of the Crown to solicit interest from Respondents who have the capacity, capability and the interest in licensing one or more of the technologies in this RFI and to potentially initiate discussions with those Respondents for the purpose of technology commercialization.

REQUIREMENT:  Defence Research and Development Canada - Suffield (DRDC S) has a requirement to develop small molecule-specific antibodies and to produce recombinant proteins in tobacco plants.  Organophosphates (OPs) remain a civilian and military health threat. While current treatment regimens increase survival, these treatments must be immediately administered for maximal Efficacy. Bioscavengers, such as human butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE), have shown therapeutic efficacy in mitigating the effects of an exposure to organophosphates. Large scare expression of proteins in transgenic tobacco plants will help provide a source of bioscavengers for research and development.  Antibodies may also provide some potential as bioscavengers.
