Thanks to a tip from a friend of mine, I found a spot in an old stomping ground of mine, Camp Dundurn, near Saskatoon:

http://quikmaps.com/show/30482

Just northwest of the star on this map, there seem to be two swipes like white-out - anyone with more experience with Google Maps/Earth able to tell me what that's all about?  Don't remember any deep, dark secrets from that part of the base from my days there (summers of ~1978 through ~1984), but who knows now?

Thanks in advance for quenching my curiosity!

Looks like someone jiggled the camera as it was scanning those two buildings....  ;D

It is a Beta Version that you are using, and they aren't always the best.  I have tried MS Virtual Earth, again a Beta Version, and it doesn't get in as close or as clear as Google Earth.

Try Google Earth on the same spot.

Tried GE, and same schmeer there, too - it DOES look like a scan problem, don't it?

I was just out in Sunny Dunny this morning. I have to say that I did not see any large white swipes at the location. I would surmise that it was a scan problem because there is no Secret Squirrl stuff going on unless the un-authorized tumble weeds are a new stealth program.
