Hi there,
I've been a long-time reader, first time poster, and I have a fairly specific question regarding my upcoming application. I'm currently one semester away (April 2015 Graduation) from finishing a Bachelors degree (International Studies), but I already have a degree in History from another institution. Ideally, I would love to get my application started as soon as I'm back in Canada (currently studying abroad) in January, but since I don't graduate until April, maybe it's a little premature? (Aside: I will be finishing my degree in Vancouver).
I'm applying for an Infantry Officer position (secondary Intelligence Officer) and my CGPA from my second degree will likely be much higher than my first. I realize that the application process can also take quite a bit of time, and therefore, my question, is whether it would affect my application significantly if I were to apply on the basis of my first degree, and the complete portion of my 2nd degree?
A secondary question, is whether, once my application is in progress, to pursue something like an internship or position in a government institution, such as an embassy/consulate/government agency whether domestically or overseas during the summer after graduation? Ideally it would be to work on my Arabic or Russian which I feel could bolster my overall application. Also, since it would be a government institution if it were overseas, would certain things such as medical examinations/physical testing/maybe even interview stages be done in an official manner in these institutions?
I'm sorry this is such a convoluted matter. If I were in Canada I would visit a recruitment center in person, but I would rather try and get affairs in order in case I'm able to apply a little earlier than expected.
Thank you for your time.
