Hello to Everyone.  I am just wondering where the closest bank would be in relation to the Garrison at
St-Jean sur Richelieu.  Before I leave BC in August, I need to set up an account.  All help is greatly appreciated.

ASU Saint-Jean (where the recruits go - where the support base is) or Fort Saint-Jean where the leadership and language courses are done?

Thank you for the information.  Perhaps you know if there is a BMO or RBC in close relation as well?  Both banks are close to me back here in BC and if I need to send money back home, I was thinking it might be easier; perhaps I'm wrong.

OK, which place are you going to?? The ASU or the Fort?? They are at opposite ends of the city so the answer will be different dependant upon where you are off to. And, I'm going to make a leap here and assume at this point you are headed for the ASU and recruit school vice the leadership school. Yes??

There is a Canadian Defence Banking right in the ASU orange sector as well as a CIBC bank Machine and several banks in or near the Mall which is about a 10-12$ cab ride. Though if it is urgent that you send money home make sure you make arrangements prior to leaving for Basic as you will not have "free" time to do banking until your first weekend off.

Though in terms of your first weekend off the CIBC in the Mall is open full hours on the saturday which is very helpful.

EDIT: To add new info

I took the "virtual tour" on the CFLRS site and saw what is referred to as the "Rotunda".  Am I to understand correctly that there is a CIBC on base?  If so, this will make things much easier.  Thanks again.

Thank-you for your help.  I'll be leaving August 6th from BC for Montreal.  The information package sent to me  explains that if there aren;t enough recruits to warrant a convoy for transportation, that a cab ride will cost in the neighbourhood of 90$.  Can someone verify that?  Again, all help is appreciated.

That sounds about right, but if you are lucky you may find a couple others that are heading that way the same time as you...and you can share the cab.

Be forewarned though, the trees will whiz by in a blur with a Montreal cabby at the wheel. They have heavy feet and scary driving tactics. Upon entering the cab it would be best to take note of the location and number of Holy Shit handles. You will likely use them. ;D

Maybe when they go outside Montréal, because they're scared of the unknow, but not often enough when in the city  ;D !

(well, except when competing with a city bus driver /shudder !)

Good to know!  I'll bring a sick bag just in the even the cabbie is feeling like a member of the Andretti family at that point.

Including tip, my cab ride from Dorval to SJSR was $100. Be sure you get a receipt.

It's also a lot easier to get 1 person to pay the bill because you get re-imbursed for it anyways, so if buddy pays for 30 and you pay for the rest it makes it a little more complicated.
