Hi All

I have my application prepared, but am having trouble deciding where to hand it in

I am a student at Carleton University in Ottawa during the school year, but live at home in Nova Scotia during the summer

I spoke with a recruiting officer for the NS Highlanders and he said they would love to have me but there could be a lot of red tape in transfering back to Ottawa for September.  However, if I applied in Ottawa wouldnt I have the same problem spending my summers in NS?

I guess its a sticky situation either way, but Im sure others have faced it before.....Just want to know what you found was the easier transition

Thanks

----Perhaps apps might be getting processed a little quicker in rural NS??

I recommend handing it into the Ottawa unit.  My unit stands-down in summer, there's no parading from May-September.  Maybe it would be a worthwhile question to ask the NS Highlanders what their summer schedule is like?

Thanks Calvin

Ive decided to apply here in Ottawa, but will be attempting to enroll with the NS Highlanders.

Does anyone here have any experiences of transfering between a home and school unit?

Its a loong loong process. A friend of mine transferred from the QYRang (Toronto area) to an infantry unit closer to Peterborough, and its been months upon months and he is still not able to parade with them.

It looks more like you are trying to have your cake and eat it too.  As ShOrtbUs pointed out, the timeframe required (and often prolonged) in transferring from one unit to another takes months (perhaps over a year) to be finalized.  You would seriously be better off joining a Unit in Ottawa, and going to Crse over the summer with them, then visit NS for a week or two prior to returning to School.  You will probably have a few weeks between University and Crse to also travel home to NS.  The actual possibilities of you being in a Unit in Ottawa for your school term and then transferring to NS for the Summer are probably zero.  Even if you did, you'd find yourself in Aldershot, not at home.  I doubt any two units would put up with the Administrative procedures (burden) of transferring you back and forth twice a year for several years.
