how would someone go about joining these once they are in the canadian forces
i looked and found information on the winter warfare course but the links sadly did not work
any help would be great

winter jungle warfare is a tough course to get, mostly because of a shortage of training areas.

i figured they all would be
i plan on joining the infantry next summer and i want to know what i need to do now to help get into those courses

Your request is confusing...
Are you asking about doing Jungle Warfare in the winter, or doing winter warfare in the jungle ??

Kat,

I disagree,

With Global warming we are finding that winter jungle warfare is at the forefront of consideration for training.

I forsee more and more training areas that cater to winter jungle warfare training.

Well, yeah, obviously, but I meant few immediately available training areas.  I'll head out back tonight and burn a bunch of plastic bags and styrofoam, see if I can't speed the process up a little.

All joking aside (you guys are really funny  ;D ), once you have joined your unit and done BMQ, trades training, etc (whatever they're calling it now), then you will be given the opportunities to go on other courses.  I don't think there's much you can do before you even join, that would "help" you get on these courses.

Now, I wonder what kind of boots you'd wear?  Desert Mukluk?  :D

lol
I think he's just asking about the seperate winter warefare and jungle warefare courses.
I'd myself love to get more info on them, have searched a bit on the internet without any success on what to expect upon completeing these courses.

:)

So, where are the current Jungle warfare courses conducted?

Shame that the Fort Sherman location in Panama was not kept by the Panamanians - that was a great place and not too far from amenities when the US controlled it.

Hmm, I thought it was held in french Guyana, but then I digress.

The FFL "Equatorial Forest Training Center" in French Guyana was used in the 80s and 90s, by 1 CDO only as far as I know. Nowadays, the Army sends people to Belize for jungle warfare trg, and 3R22R recently sent some of its Soldiers to Brunei to conduct trg with the Gurkhas there.

thanks moe for the help
i am interested in doing winter AND jungle warfare training
would i only be able to pick one course ever? or could i take more
i can not really find anything on courses

In regards to overall availability, winter warfare is pretty much a done deal if you spend much time in an infantry trade.  We've got lots of winter to spare, and a lot of experienced staff ready to provide training.  Even if you dont take an official course, it can be written off by senior staff as 'completed' after you have completed a winter training exercise of suitable length and had appropriate training sessions during that exercise (however, that was a while back so not sure if that practice is still allowed).

Jungle warfare is a bit tougher of a nut to crack, as it has to be on a course outside of Canada (no surprise there).  There are only so many slots available, and unless you are lucky, or have some mission, unit, or person of influence supporting your nomination, you're unlikely to get it.

Even if you dont get the jungle course, there are still a lot of other interesting courses out there to take, dont build your future career around just one concept...

thanks for the help
i would be happy with any course really
i really want to do winter and then jungle
is there a woodland warfare course? or is this just a standard course everyone receives

Do you mean reconnaissance, or pathfinding?

o um pathfinding i am more interested in
but i am assuming you will learn that in BMQ

Yes - operating in a wooded environment is something you will cover in the normal course of training.

Slow down a bit and do a bit more reading on how careers and courses work.  If you want to go Infantry in the Regular Force, read up more on LAV courses and less on Jungle Training - or better yet, more on Basic Training before you get ahead of yourself.

ya i am not to worried about basic training
i have no control over it so why worry?
i am applying in march so i have lots of time

Jungle warfare is the best thing you can ever imagine.  :warstory: Sweating buckets, mozzies so big they'll drink your blood, steal your food and steal the smallest section member, bugs bigger then my bed, never enough water, never being able to sleep, not seeing the bad guys until your about 2m away, feeling your clothes and kit starting to rot after only a couple of weeks, the constant rain, the constant humid heat.... Excuse me while i crawl into a tiny ball and try to MAKE THE VOICES STOP!

Yep, a jungle exercise is definately something that you want to get on AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!  ;)

I've spent too much time in the J, been bitten by too wierd ants, freaky beatles, various ticks, and mossies of all shapes and sizes. Been wet for days, had wierd rashes, wrecked feet, and stunk like I was the BO Master and Mould Koenigwutcher!

Flash'n back to Tully and 'wait-a-while' grass! Darwin, High Range, Shoalwater Bay, and Wide Bay.

Meanwhile here on Bribie www.bribie.com.au just hanging out as yet another bad tropical storm passes overhead.
