"Slipping on grease in a cruise ship eating area led to permanent physical injuries to a Calgary woman, a $2.5-million lawsuit claims.
Nancy Bertschy says she has been confined to a wheelchair since she fell and was improperly moved by ship staff during a holiday off the coast of Florida.":

Unfortunately for the Americans, I do not believe they have the Good Samaritan law like we do here; where IF they administered proper First Aid assistance according to the training of St. John Ambulance, they would not be liable for suit.  Since they don't, no one should have touched the injured party except trained medical personal.  My  :2c:
I can see this one going all the way and she could easily win the lawsuit...$2.5M against Carnival???  Pittance and pocket change!

Hmm, definitely some extra cash floating around there somewhere ???  (pun intended)
Seems cruise lines are no longer the Love Boat  :crybaby:    Where's Julie  8)

First thing is the cruise line must be proven negligent.  They are only responsible for food spilled on the floor (possible cause?)  if they knew about it and did nothing or were negligent in cleaning the floor on a timely basis.  Note that many fast food restaurants have a timetable and log the cleaning.

As far as $2.5 million for a broken leg and bruising - sounds a bit excessive.
