Hi, I'm sorry if this has been posted before but I really don't want to search through 67021608131 pages to find an answer.

I'm a woman interested in joining the reserves, possibly for signal ops or medical. I'm a determined, fast learner and I have no doubt that I can excel, however I've been receiving a lot of discouragement on the basis that "women get treated like crap in the army". Is this just BS? It could be highly problematic since I have an especially short temper when it comes to dealing with condescending perverts and there's a chance I'd eventually just snap and pull a Private Pile stunt.

*Edit* one more thing, is it a huge pain in the *** to switch from reserve to full time?

Thank you!

Before you find out firsthand how short of a temper people on this site also have, you might want to be searching through those posts that come up when you search.  Most, if not all, of your concerns have been addressed many times before.

I'll help you out a bit.  Start with this one.

I tried searching to lend a hand with a link to a certain post regarding piratecore's question; the only thing that came up was her post, and airmich's post.

However, that being said, there are a few female's on this site that I'm sure can give you some valid answers. I won't release names for the security of the certain female members I'm regarding in my post, but I'm sure if either of them are willing to lend a hand, they will reply.

Sorry, but this
I'm a determined, fast learner and I have no doubt that I can excel,
  doesn't jive with this

If you can't/won't sift through the site looking for your answer, what are you going to do when faced with some real, potentially life-altering challenges?

A few places to start:

2x Articles about female medics in Afghanistan

where are the women in the CF?

For transferring from Reserves to Regular Force, search on "Component Transfer", and see this board - Occupational Transfers

Lastly, a friendly word of advice, if you want to claim that you're "a determined, fast learner", then you may not want to start thread by saying you couldn't be bothered to search and ask others to do the work for you.  Read, learn the lexicon, and practice using the search page.  Otherwise, you may find that the tone of the forums has a temper as short as you claim yours might be.

Look I did run a search but all of the posts were really old and I didn't think anyone would reply. Thanks for your help. Can I delete this now?

Maybe some of the women on this board would be kind enough to explain their own experiences in the Military, and maybe dispel some of her misconceptions...

When you use the search page, always start by looking for threads from the last 100 days or year to narroiw the returns.

Yup, it's BS.  Women do NOT get treated like crap in the army, navy or air force.

I'll start by saying, I don't know who your hearing this BS from, but that's what it is ... BS.

But interestingly, it's all a matter of what you definition of "condescending pervert" is. You see, I've seen women who could tell male-bashing jokes etc behind the boys' backs...absolutely fly off the handle if one of the guys even made a passing ref to some "weak woman," apparently in defense of women's honour everywhere. Please spare me, all they did was reinforce the fact that their thong was 5 sizes too small and was thus shoved up their own condescending ass. To this day, I know a couple of them...who still honestly believe that they were picked on by the men for being a female. Actually, they were slammed by all of us (especially us girls after warning them) because they wouldn't get their shit together, stop whining, stop blaming their problems on, and stop trying to get out of tasks based on some "but I am a girl" reason." In short they wanted the equal paychecque...but didn't want the work that goes along with it. It has also been my experience that the ones who yell the loudest about being picked on because they are a girl...are the ones who most often try to use that little tidbit to their best "shy, smiling, advantage" whenever opportunity arises.

I typed in one keyword and got 4 pages of results...just like that. One of which was this one:

http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/40903/post-350039.html#msg350039

But it doesn't really matter whether you use the keyword "woman," "female," or "respect" while looking for the answer to your question...

Go to the "Training" or "Recruiting" subboards...and you'll find for yourself that, inevitably, the question you pose makes it into MOST threads...and usually receives the same "that's BS" answer.

Feel free to PM me if you wish...I'll go back through my 3966 posts, of which probably 40 would also be answering the question you asked.

I would suggest too, that you go back to whoever is discouraging you and ask why/what/when.  If they are just a third-party to this opinion, or going on rumours themselves, then you will realize that they don't hold truth.

The people who DO get treated like crap in the military, male AND female, are those that don't do their job, bring the wrong attitude to the job etc.  But it is not gender specific.  I know I treated girls the same as guys when I was giving them heck. ;D

Well.  We all know where this topic leads, and our fast learner will find out soon enough.  As the spiral has already started.

Shall we impose the normal Caveates and declare this topic LOCKED?
