Hi, I recently started a 22 month course at a college in Barrie, Ont. I was thinking about joining reserves here, but I was just wondering how things would work for BMQ and SQ. Since I do not the summer break off, would I be able to complete these courses during weekends, or would they prefer I wait until I have completed my schooling to apply?

Ah!  ...........    Yup!    Guess this is the best way to start:

To summarize. Welcome to Army.ca, start reading.

You are going to require at least four weeks off for the summer to do your SQ.  You can do your BMQ on weekends.  Best bet is to go and visit the local Reserve Unit and find out what they have planned for their new Recruits.

George beat me to the punch by about 3 seconds!!!

Short answer:

1.  The Reserves are pretty much tailored to students in that many courses are run during the summers, but there are also many courses run on weekends for those that can't get away for extended periods in the summer.

2.  I would suggest a search.  There is in fact a thread here started and updated routinely by a Reserve soldier who is conducting weekend training.

Welcome to the site, search for what you need, read everything you can, post in the discussions and enjoy it.
