I‘m just curious...what exactly is the "work up" training done for when you go overseas? is it just time to make sure you are physically fit, and you are proficient in the areas that you need to be?

Hello,
Work up training typically has two phases. Phase one is class ‘B‘ reserve
time. During this time you will work on your basic, and advanced trades
training. PT, range work, live fire exercises, lecures. This training is
done with the unit that the reservist will be deploying with. Typically,
there are more reservists than positions. So, some may not pass there work
up training, and not be offered a contract. The lenght of the period can
vary greatly.
If the reservist pass this stage they will be offered a Class ‘C‘ contract.
Basically, a short term contact with the regular Army. This contract will
state your position, rank, and payregular Army standard. In addition, once
the class ‘C‘ is signed the reservist will receive regular Army benfits.
Of course, this many differ from trade to trade. However, this is the way
that it has worked in the past for the Infantry, from my experience.
Thanks,
David
