Worst Civilian Section (POLL)

In your personal opinion, which is the most disfunctional civilian section of the CF?

Just the fact that some of those are not part of the CF and only contractors (ATCO/SNC/IRPP).  Most of the others are part of DND vice the CF.   And those that are part of DND have a union that would have no qualms about encouraging a member to file a harassment complaint about people making derogatory comments about them in a public forum.   As a gentleman pointed out in the thread about the British soldier's activities, it is possible to dig out real info from the web.   Caution should be used.   Grievances can be dismissed as frivilous but the road to that dismissal can be filled with heartache.

Are you suggesting that the poll be removed?

This is not an issue of greivance or harrassment expression, simply personal opinion.

Personally, I have worked for civilian contractors (ATCO), CF Sections (NPF) and I also have a significant amount of Regular Force service and I have formed my own opinions on these various institutions and I am now curious about other peoples views.

No,

The poll should not be removed.  Just pointing out that sometimes, some of our civilian counterparts can be easily offended by statements made in haste and may pursue their grievance through formal channels.  As well as pointing out that most of the catagories listed are part of DND or contractors and not part of the CF.

I know that SNC is actively recruiting for positions in Afghanistan and Bosnia.

Get rid of them all.

I'm inclined to agree with you for the most part.  I think it is embarrasing that the Army should have to go a civilian organization for physical fitness management.

Embarrassment aside, have the results warranted it?  I should think that that is what matters.

I remember doing PT at Borden; running one morning was organized by the school sergeant major (who was absent) and some hairy NCO dudes.  No one really put much into it.

Spinning class the next day at the gym was taught by a civvilian hottie...umm....I think she got better results, frankly. ;)

I have to say that CFHA isn't making friends well. Conditions in PMQ's really haven't improved much since they took over, but rates have gone up.

On the good side...PSP (here in Canada as well as overseas) have done alot of good. I feel that these civilian specialists (many with multple university degrees and experience in the area) have brought much more knowledge to our fitness training. We now have more options for training, and since they have incorporated fitness training instructed by PSP in leadership courses, I have seen better run PT sessions (by soldiers) and fewer injuries due to overtraining, poor stretching and just plain stupidity.

Also I am impressed with the effort CFPSA puts forth for us on deployment. The pers at the leave centers go out of thier way to assist you in getting the most of your time. On the poor side (and I feel its the policies that limit them), the travel sections have caused a few headaches, but for the most part they do thier best to help as well.

Sometimes it's great to get away from the whole military train of thought and deal with civilians.  You can save a lot of time and headache because the different styles of how they do things. They can really speed things up and dont have as many hoops to jump though.

It's a catch 22 I find though because from my experience many civilian agencies don't seem to be held as accountable as a military group.  Good luck trying to get them to do something if they don't wanna do it.  To get something done in that case you have to go all the way up your chain of command, then all the way down theirs then back again.

The first time i delt with the travel side of PSP it was a nightmare. The travel part seems to have gotten a lot better (They seem to have more authority) but I still remember having problems with the gym being double booked. Getting equipment was often impossible as you couldnt track the rep down, they didnt have the keys, equipment was busted and not replaced.  It seemed like it took more than half the tour to get some clubs up and running.

It seems like a move int he right direction but i think both sides need to better cooperate and work with one another.

Our PT facilities is another sticky matter with me. Civilians have access to our gym and they pay for a membership that is significantly lower than that of the gyms downtown.

One problem that I have is when I go to the gym in the morning and the place is crawling with civilians using our facilities. At times, it gets to the point where we can't use the squash courts, certain weight equipment, bikes, etc...

The offer lunch programs as well, which are also loaded with civilians.

Should the military member have precedence in the military gym? I understand that we need to fund these projects but shouldn't we restrict the access of civilians during peek military periods?

Civi contractors has got to be the worst...on base. The most sluvenly looking bunch of shite I have ever met....

didnt mean to swear..awfully sorry chaps....

Kings town jimmy.

There was a lawesuit filed by some of the local gyms in kingston because the RMC gym was practically giving away memberships and the civilian gyms were loosing buisness. I'm pretty sure the RMC gym was ordered to jack up their prices to civies

Fair enough. That still doesn't excuse the fact that it is a military gym and we should have precedence. Are we going to start renting out our C7's next time we need extra cash?
