Sure, but while I don't want to bring down what they do, it's very much a support role.  Fighters in theater would be shooting and dropping.  You can't compare the two.

And fighters do their job (ie: operationnal stuff) here in Canada every day.  To each his own deployments.  And believe me, it's not the will within the FF that prevents us from going there (at the tactical level anyways).
