Religious/Extremist Terrorism: Non-Muslim edition

The irony burns ....
Not the first time a bunch of thugs had there shit taken legally:

The WPS own the Spartan OMG logo I believe. I think they did that in the 90s.

Looks like RCMP made a couple terrorism arrests in Ottawa and Quebec today. One individual so far is charged with various terrorism offences pertaining to his participation in the activities of Atomwaffen Division, an extremist neo-Nazi group.

Latest on the Patrick Macdonald charges ....

Never thought I'd be posting about a dude identified as bombing a fertility clinic because he's allegedly thought procreation is unethical or unjustifiable, but here we are.

More on the movement ....

... and a bit of MSM backstory on the movement, such as it is, from a few years back:

Man, some people make logical contortions that, if physical, would keep a chiropractor in cash for life. How does one 'consent to be born'?

We have friends that vacation and winter in Palm Springs. It strikes me as an odd place for a fertility clinic considering the average age seems to be about 70(it's actually 58, but still . . . )

What an absolutely bizarre case. Rare for me to read of extremism that’s I’ve never remotely heard of before, but as you say, here we are…

A ruling that will likely set some precedence.
Bumped with the latest: the appeal ...
... with a bit of hyperbolic coverage from 2023 (during the trial) of the "ideological evidence" at play ...
... and a bit more from the CBC at that time, sharing what the jury didn't hear during the trial, but could be released after the jury was locked up deliberating:

They're popping up in the news again, including allegations of the group helping USSR 2.0 in Ukraine ...

Latest on the Patrick Macdonald charges ....

The sentencing hearing for Patrick MacDonald took place last week. Defence argued for 6-8 years, crown for 14. My feel is it’ll probably land on the lower end of that. Sentencing decision to come down in early September. He’s on bail in the meantime.

Edward Kelley, 36, has been sentenced to life in prison for plotting to murder FBI, state, and municipal police members in Tennessee, and bomb their office with vehicles and drones. His conviction follows a Joint Terrorism Task Force investigation. A co-plotter flipped on him and cooperated with investigators.

Kelley is one of the few January 6th rioters remaining in prison; he assaulted police at the Capitol and was one of the first to enter the building. His new conviction results from a plot on his part to go after and kill the police who originally investigated him (and it seems expanded to include others). His lawyer tried to argue that Trump’s pardon for January 6th also covered these new crimes, but DoJ pushed back on that and the judge didn’t buy it.

Thanks, she had an interesting body of research so far, and we don’t have a wealth of academia on these subjects specifically in Canada. I’ll have to look up more of her stuff.

Makes sense. If there’s one thing radical Islamists, incels and the far right multi-verse has is blaming women for their inability to get laid and hatred of women who think for themselves.

I think it’s a symptom, not a cause, but yeah it does show up a lot in the ‘angry, disenfranchised young men’ who disproportionately make up violent radicals of all stripes.

their inability to get laid

Politics may be influencing dating choices now more than when the question was, "What's your zodiac sign?"

Young men and women are taking the 'gender gap' to staggering new levels
The gulf between Gen Z men and women on political and cultural issues is far wider than it is in older generations.

The 18 to 29 dating scene looks pretty grim,
Not to sure that is a serious problem. I cannot recall ever having a political discussion with my wife whilst we were dating. Those issues didn't come up until well into the second or third year of marriage when an election was called and by then things like mortgages and diapers were far more important.
