Many years ago I was involved in helping a young M.P. run for his party’s leadership. He definitely wasn’t a natural born speaker and it was my company’s job to help make him sound as palatable to the public as possible. We went over some of the 3/4” videotapes (yes, that was way back) and pointed out to him and his campaign team his most obvious weak points in his speeches and his overall mannerisms. The man, I must say, worked very very hard in the next few weeks and by the time the nominating convention was held, he actually got the most votes. He never developed the elocution skills of, say, Brian Mulroney, but he did refine his abilities enough to go on and become Prime Minister. That man was Joe Clark. Mark Carney, despite his inwardness, has more potential as a speaker than Clark. Whether he develops it or not we’ll just have to wait and see.Typical of someone not used to speaking a lot or public speaking. It's a trait common with new politicians.
He’s used to speaking to a different sort of audience, but his speech on the night of the leadership announcement proves he can deliver a good speech. He needs to get better as responding to questions and criticism in the fly. Many years ago I was involved in helping a young M.P. run for his party’s leadership. Like trudeau, he sounds competent when his speeches are scripted for him. Not so much if he has to speak off the cuff. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has his own square paper water bottle thingies moment. Same as questions to him. He said he won't talk to reporters or people asking questions on the street, only at predetermined press briefings. And then he can be brusk and demeaning if asked something he's not prepared for, doesn’t like or cuts to close to stuff he doesn’t want Canadians to know. He is not transparent and agreeable when he restricts which news outlets are allowed into his briefings, like Rebel or True North. Whether you like them or not, they are bonafide and registered journalistic outlets and deserve to be there for their supporters. And right now, he's playing nice to get elected. I can’t imagine if he wins and has free reign and is unaccountable. He’s used to speaking to a different sort of audience, but his speech on the night of the leadership announcement proves he can deliver a good speech. Good thing he picked an entry-level position instead of something like head of government.Typical of someone not used to speaking a lot or public speaking. It's a trait common with new politicians.
Even President Trump supports the LPCs leader sort of.
So does the Carney endorsement taint him for the anti PP crowd here?![]()
Still sorting out if it's 4-dimensional chess, petulance or something that's going to be superseded by something else he says - or varying degrees of "all/none of the above". Time will tell.So does the Carney endorsement taint him for the anti PP crowd here?![]()
With that screen in place Canadians don't even need to know what assets Carney owns. We can just trust the Liberal government to put a stop to any ethical violations or breaches. Total nothing to see here moment and time for Canadians to move on.And he nullifies the issue instead of pouring gas on it.
Have you been on the Ethics Commissioner site to read the current disclosures and get a handle on what they entail? Read the regulations around what a screen actually is?With that screen in place Canadians don't even need to know what assets Carney owns. A few days ago the story about Carney looking forward to talking to Trump came out and his base loved it. He's not wasting any time and behaving like a true world leader should. Trump will talk to Carney immediately if he has any brain cells. This, ladies and gentlemen, is what a leader looks like!Canadian media will spin that as Carney being the best person to deal with Trump. If Trump had said he liked Pierre, media would spin that as meaning Carney was the best person to deal with Trump.
Transparency is about answering questions asked and providing reasonable access. The latter doesn't necessitate paying to make them part of the baggage train.
