Political impacts of Ukraine war

I really have no objection to this. The only thing I’d add is to mark and record every mine laid and not scattered Willy nilly
Meh, sometimes you need to be able to dispense an ass-ton fast. I’m more concerned about proper boundary marking than individual mines, especially due to submunitions.

You got to figure at this point a few once’s of prevention should be taken by the province.

Cutting 500m wide firebreaks every 25km or so and a 5km break every 100km with upgrading of road networks and camp facilities to support firefighting activities.

Invest in some SMR’s, and create some artificial lakes off some the current rivers to provide water basins to aid fire fighting efforts.

Get more rotary and fixed wing water bombers.

The Military shouldn’t be a first responder to annual domestic issues.
The issue I think is more what you're protecting...and what you're walking away from.
If the priority is to protect towns and communities....then that means 5-10 km of no forest, swamp, un-mowed grass. And I can't think of many towns let alone cities would be up for being exposed like that....which also means Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver etc. doing large scale clearing. It's not a defense position that someone can justify as it's also the non-stop maintenance. And unfortunately the boreal forest was designed to burn and the rest of the areas just burn less...

In terms of Waterbombers I like what Saskatchewan did with 2 of their 4 new Bombardier Q-400 Dash 8. It has the tanks for water bomber service but can also be used a passenger transport. Sask. Public Safety Agency renewing its fleet of water bombers
I realize it's not a C-130 but the Q-400's have been working very well for several years as water bombers and it's the sort of dual role aircraft I think there is a role for the Federal Gov't + Prov. Gov't to work together on to expand response capacity. Just wish there was more Federal support to buy such aircraft...even if they came with a clause the RCAF can conscript them in times of national emergency?

But tankers, helicopters, fire breaks are useless unless you have manpower to back them up. Aviation gets alot of media attention, bulldozers less, and the crews often less again. And like the Army...if all you have are privates then somewhere you need to build up additional supervision (NCO's and Officers) which adds to camp costs/summer budgets. And like the CAF almost all the of Wildfire response agencies are also dealing with hiring challenges and retention issues which is also affecting response. It's almost like we're both in search of the same people - young, fit, motivated, and able to move on a moment's notice for the next assignment.

Just like a barrier plan for a defensive position. The greatest minefield in the world is useless unless covered by view and fire.

Nothing to see here folks, or the Commissar will get you...

Here's your sign, Mr. Rubio...

Trump selling out Ukraine is less analogous to Chamberlain and more like the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact. Trump has threatened military or economic force to annex territory from democracies. He wants to normalize a world where powerful nations are entitled to seize what they want from neighbours.

All he is normalizing is the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Plus all the lower-level arming up and eyeballing the neighbours that comes with a less settled approach to borders.
Well hey we got to sell weapons somewhere now that NATO has been given a reason to question the reliability of the supplier.
