So this sunday will be my first outing as a retired member, where I will be wearing my medals. So, question for the brain trust. Medals plus associated extras (wings, commendations etc), or just medals. I personally favour just medals.

Full sized medals for Blues and Greys. Miniatures on a suit. Pinned at the top of the chest pocket. Some guys wear their blazer crest on their side pocket because it gets covered by your medals on the top pocket. Lots of people use collar dogs, wings , etc. Commendations can be worn in their normal spot with the medals. Remember, you're retired. Do what you want and don't let anyone persuade you otherwise. I normally wear a small unit insignia (tie tack) and my CD pin on my left lapel.

Usually you just see medals, but it’s up to you depending on the nature of the event and setting. You’re gonna be poking the person to your left in the arm with your rack anyway.

Pretty much the same here

It’s your first outing as a retired member, so keeping it classic feels right. You can always add the wings or commendations at future events if the vibe fits better

Alternatively, start the night with just your miniatures on...and keep the rest in a pocket (or two) and as the night goes on, every time you head to the bar/heads/etc, slip on another bit of bling.

Full sized for blazers. Miniatures for suit or tux.

I was out and about a few weeks ago with the rack on. An Indigenous man in a wheelchair stopped me and basically ordered me to tell him what all those medals were for. He shook may hand and he told his daughter to thank me for defending our country. He thanked me profusely.

A proud moment.
