Trump administration 2024-2028

I don’t think that’s the case at all. We just have a system that has a rules that are much more tight. Corruption still exists. But it’s at a much smaller scale that it seems insignificant.

There is a significant difference with something like staying at the aga khans island on vacation vs a custom jumbo jet being given as a gift from Qatar for example. None pass the smell test though.

Either way, as much as I see the hypocrisy of people calling out Carney’s holdings (with a lot of ignorance on how that works btw) while defending a POTUS who won’t reveal his tax returns and his own holdings while running crypto scams and gaudy product placements the fact is that the US is another country and it’s their business if they want to become an Oligarchy.
Along a similar vein - you don't have to be a multi-millionaire to be elected to the H of C in Canada. Try being an 'average Joe' in the US and getting elected, it happens, very rarely, like a CDN team winning the Cup..... ;)

I see two instances of politicians accepting gifts. The only real difference is the dollar value attached.
In our case Canadian tax dollars are being used for security. In the US case tax dollars are being used to refit the plane.

I agree, it's hypocritical to call out one and defend the other. Both holdings are currently being hidden from public scrutiny.

I'm in no way shape or form defending Trumps cell phone shinnanigans. It's gaudy narcissism. It’s a handy distraction from the untold millions US politicians seem to accumulate.

... The creepy little robot dogs was a bit unexpected, but I suppose fit the theme of the near future.

What are those things supposed to do anyway??

(Like do machine guns or flamethrowers pop out of them? Do they go into rabid attack mode & rip enemy troops to shreds?)
They can do all sorts of stuff, apparently ....
... with this from the Brits

Meanwhile, Trump tough on China - eventually?

the massive victory parade through New York on January 12th, 1946.

Must have been an amazing time in America.

V-E and V-J Day celebrations. American servicemen kissing the ground as they disembarked from troop ships.

The last American men to be Drafted for Vietnam are now well into 70s.

Wonder what their opinion is of the 79 year old president .

Assuming someone was 18 when the were called up in 1945, they'd be 98 years-old now. 18 + 55 +25. We're about to lose the last of the greatest generation.

They looked good coming home.

🍻

When the end of war was cause for celebration everyone was involved. Even the nurses marched better than those in the Trump birthday parade.

Even the UK military’s info-machine noticed
Spoiler alert: Brit guy comes down on the side of “if you’re gonna do drill, do it well.” ;)
I caught the Queen's footguard doing some practice runs there years ago, it was pretty impressive to see in person.

This looked like a gaggle walking along, with a few people randomly doing drill pretty poorly.

Fortunately looks like no one in the Fox News echo chamber is complaining they looked like shit, so no one should be getting in trouble.

Overall, how did they compare to our troops marching behind the band during The King's recent visit in Ottawa?

I think comparable, adjusting for the wow factor of seeing it in person, and them being a much bigger formation.

You will see the odd example of Canadian drill going sideways (like that weird one in the West Edmonton mall, but the acoustics in there were likely confusing as hell), but the formal drill I've seen around Parliament, at the Citadel etc has always been sharp as a tack. I've done a parade for the city in Halifax and a few other similar ones and generally looked pretty solid on footage afterwards, and aside from a bit of practice for the platoon commanders that was just random troops turning up for it and going.

This brings us to around ~6000 National Guard and 700 Marines.

The administration is trying really hard to make the protests/riot(s) look way more serious and widespread than in reality.

Funny how all of a sudden, more than a few people who usually say "can't trust the media" seems to be trusting the bits showing chaos in bits around LA, right? ;)

This scene seems more relevant today in so many ways…
