New pay raise affect IRB?

Since the IRB is based on the regular forces payscale, when the CAF gets a raise, ppl on IRB should get one too no?

Anyone have any info on that?

My understanding is that it will only affect IRB if the IRB rate is based on payrates since 1 Apr 2025. Wouldn't run to the bank with that though as there are rumours flying around already about this package.

Funny one - some members were thinking the yearly military service payment was going back in time and they were getting it for each year they had previously served. "I have 20 years, going to get a fortune out of this"

Not Funny one - out of Ottawa there is a rumour (anything unverified is a rumour) that the payment will be pro-rated this year and issued in Dec. No idea what they mean by pro-rated. Seems to me to be a simple thing of every enrolment anniversary you get the lump sum paid.

How much of a logistical issue is it to keep tra k of everyone’s enrolment date and have the pay systems auto pay on those dates?

Or would it be easier to do one dump of money per year, say 31 March?

It would be easier to do the one dump every year rather than track on enrolment dates. I remember the MPs in early 2000s had the enrolment bonus that was partly paid on enrolment and partly paid at the 3 year mark I think. It was a pain and it wasn't unusual to have MPs at the counter enquiring why they hadn't received it yet.

Have this information provided by secret squirrel process. I only posted the this year portion as the next year portion boils down to we plan to have the process in place by 1 Apr 2026. Of most interest is the MPSB statement.


• Pay increase, retroactive to 01 April 2025, will be delivered later this fall.
• The new Military Pay Service benefit, retroactive to 01 April 2025, has yet to be fully defined in policy – system implementation dates will be confirmed once the final policy is received.

I had always assumed IRB would be based on what you would make if you were still in.

Even though they do say its "based on your salary" I assumed they meant "based on the salary given your rank"

So if I left the CAF as a Cpl 2, my IRB is based on Cpl 2 salary and not necessarily MY salary when I left. Otherwise eventually we'd be left in the dust as members get pay raises over the years.

Have there BEEN any pay raises in recent years, or is the annual COLA increases the only pay bumps?

If I were inclined to bet, this is my estimate:

• IRB is a benefit that is administered by DVA, and is indexed to inflation; and
• a pay raise now would only likely increase one's IRB, if the raise would have affected the earnings at the time of release. ie: a raise retroactive to Dec 24, would increase the benefit for a member who got out in Feb 25, but not for someone who got out in Nov 24.
