18 Aug 2025: Poilievre/By-election in Battle River–Crowfoot (AB)

This is where I'm wondering if he'll change his approach - different target, different tactics - and if not, how that works for him & Team Blue.

Right this second, I'd still bet my loonie on his winning the leadership being held in friendly territory. The final numbers? I'll wait until closer for a WAG :)
If he doesnt change toon, this wont go well, his national ratings keep dropping more and more

Realistically he has a couple years at least before an election. He’ll be fine at the leadership review. He has time to recalibrate and refocus himself and his party.

Or he can just watch and wait.

Keep reminding people of the policies that Carney has adopted. Keep beating the drum on domestic issues and see what the next two budgets bring.

There will be pain. Better for the Conservatives if the Liberals get the blame.

There will be new opportunities to make political hay...

Unless war breaks out.

At least he doesn't have to move. He never left Stornoway. It will be interesting to see how time he spends in his new riding.

That was a great movie! ;)

If he opens a constituency office there, that'll be more than Carney's doing in his riding.

And in no surprise, Poilievre has the overwhelming lead at today's polls.

Interesting quote from todays edition of Politico's Ottawa Playbook:

A sure thing:
Poilievre won in an area so safe that former Conservative MP KEVIN SORENSON, who represented the riding for 20 years, joked in 2019 that even “a three-legged dog could win in Crowfoot — as long as it was Conservative.”

Probably at least as much as carney spends in his.

At least PP has a constituency office. Carney doesn't.

From GROK

Pierre Poilievre’s constituency office in Alberta, for the Battle River—Crowfoot riding, is located at:
Professional Building, 4945 50 Street, Camrose, AB T4V 1P9
Telephone: 780-608-4600
Fax: 780-608-4603
Email: [email protected]

As of August 14, 2025, Prime Minister Mark Carney does not yet have a permanent constituency office in his Nepean riding, more than 100 days after the spring election. His office has stated that the process to find a local office that meets security requirements and is accessible to constituents is "well underway." In the meantime, Nepean residents can access federal services through Defence Minister David McGuinty’s office in the neighboring riding of Ottawa South. No specific address for Carney’s constituency office has been listed in the provided information or official sources.

I feel like PP has had a lot of time on his hands, being unemployed and all.

That said, Carney should just open his constituency office.

Is this just like the people who thought he would only get 40, maybe 50% vote share in this by election?

I think your grasping for straws, but feel free to seek out articles from CBC to confirm your views.

I will remind you once again, Paul Martin beat Harper in 2004, and you know what happened in 2006.

My prediction? Carney popularity will plummet fast unless he pulls a rabbit or a trump out of the hat.

Based on what? There's no signs point to that right now, and anyone think Pierre wouldn't take a huge win in BRC is on Crack. Though gotta credit and independent for getting 9.5%

Robyn Urback in the Globe and Mail. Poilievre needs to act like a grown up, but can still be an attack dog.

Mr. Poilievre can be an attack dog while also being a grown-up. And indeed, he has already shown signs of that; for example, when he remarked back in July that he doesn’t “blame [Mr. Carney] entirely” for failing to make progress in trade talks, noting that “he’s dealing with unfair treatment by the Americans.” But he can still challenge Mr. Carney on his failure to “eliminate” interprovincial trade barriers as he promised by July 1. He can question why the government is trudging ahead with its wasteful and pointless gun-buyback program. He can demand clarity on the extent to which Mr. Carney will allow a duty to consult First Nations on infrastructure projects to delay development. Plenty of Canadians are still frustrated with the status quo; Mr. Poilievre can be their voice in the House once again.

Indeed, Canadians need effective opposition, and Mr. Poilievre is perhaps the most effective there is. He shouldn’t abandon his strength for something pleasant yet inauthentic. He just needs to be a lot more serious about it.
