... Here's an example from the UK where Wales wants to do just this very idea
Funny you should mention that :)
From the e-petition (approved by a Liberal MP, no less):
Whereas:
  • Members of Parliament (MPs) have been accused of making important public statements that are false and without evidence;
  • Misinformation is a growing threat to the proper functioning of, as well as faith in, our democratic process;
  • A mechanism is needed to verify MPs’ public statements to maintain trust in our governing body;
  • Artificial Intelligence is amplifying misinformation;
  • Current events in the United States demonstrate the dangers of not addressing this problem; and
  • The Institute for Constitutional and Democratic Research (ICDR) of Wales, UK, proposed a white paper entitled “A Model for Political Honesty,” created because “the Welsh Government will bring forward legislation before 2026 for the disqualification of Members and candidates found guilty of deliberate deception through an independent judicial process and will invite the committee to make proposals to that effect.”
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to propose a bill to address the issue of perceived and actual misinformation being presented by MPs to the public, provided that such a bill could be informed by details outlined in the white paper proposed by the ICDR.
Looks like something like almost 9K signatures as of this post. Deadline for signatures is 1000EDT 27 Nov 2025.

Lies by ommission should be there also.

I wonder if this shows the further strain on the liberal government, by its own members.

It could also be legitimately that she has a valuable role to play in Ukraine.

Hard to say, without more evidence.
Great. Let Ukraine hire her then.

Canada needs to be rebuilt. Europe can take care of Ukraine. We are not needed, and if we genuinely are it should be because we have something Europe can buy from us. Which we don’t….

there is no re-building in isolation. Canada needs partners. Partners in trade, partners in ideas, partners in belief. with the U.S. proving itself to be less than reliable, Canada needs to expand into other areas with countries that share our goals and to a great extent our history as well and we need to choose carefully who those partners will be. Our government is leaning towards Europe and that will require effort on our part which may mean we are going to be, we already are, involved in helping out Ukraine as part of the price of partnership. Isolation doesn't work.

Europe will quickly f*ck Canada over 10x harder than the US. I understand Europhiles in Canada won’t see it that way but Western Canada has more in common with the US than we do with Ottawa. We certainly have little desire to be a dumping ground for Eurotrash.
I don’t care for Trump or the MAGA bs, but I care less for the European geopolitics, wars and political affiliations with those who suck Canadian money and lives for 125 years now, and will demand more and more.

How?

What do you mean by Eurotrash?

Would that not have been our affiliation with Britain rather than Europe for the most part?

Western Canada has more in common with New Jersey or Montana? With Ohio or Idaho?

I’d say NFLD has more in common with Ireland then with New Mexico. Quebec with France then with Louisiana.

wow! Someone at some time has really done you some damage.

This country has to get off its knees and stop shopping around for big brothers.
We owe Europe and the US nothing, but only one of those two is pretty much identical to us in almost every way and us connected by a road network.

I’m talking business here, not military or political sovereignty. Nobody is going to attack Canada, not even the US. Bet on it. Trump will be gone in 3 years (or less).

Trade with European Union will require massive compromises and adoptions by Canada of standards and levels of environmental action, rules for property ownership, our constitutional division of powers, our common law, our laws of contract, our travel, trade in a manner that is not compatible with how 10s of millions of Canadians want to live their lives.

Rural Ontario especially southwestern Ontario has more in common with the mid west than any part of Europe. Western Canada has more in common with the US mid west, mountain states all the way to Texas. Far more in common in fact than with Ottawa, the GTA, Quebec or the Maritimes. Deep integration with Europe will expose even more a very serious rural-urban and east -west divide that will end this country just as quickly as Donald Trump would like that.

Fair points.
But fairer is our need to grow some wings and branch out to other areas of the globe.
No reason why we shouldn’t be rekindling our old familial relationships, while at the same time searching for some new friends.
The US will never go away, for certain, but moving down from 80 to 45-50% is a prudent move.
