Socks

I sometimes wonder how long it would take for someone to notice if one were to wear Chelsea boots in DEU.

I've ended up wearing the winter DEU boot a few times all day and no one noticed, I say go for it!

The socks I was issued for Bahrain are out-fucking-standing and over a year and a half later there is no sign of degradation in the heels or toes after almost daily wear.
Obviously a huge error in procurement.

Wore Wellingtons for some 6 yrs, nobody noticed or at least commented!

Well, hell has frozen over... The RCN is getting a wellington/blundstone style Sea boot...

Every meet Jimmy Cox? Yes he checked socks. He’s legendary and it proves you can be a total wreck and still be CO
Not just CO, we was the Deputy (SSF) Force Commander in Petawawa, and then was 1CMBG in Calgary. I couldn’t get away from him for like 7 years…

He led me to believe the RCR moto should have been “Never pass a fault, pass many…”

This guy must have been something. He keeps reappearing in posts on these means.

He would patrol the ranges in Petawawa with his placard and flag adorned Iltis looking for folks who where not wearing helmets.
He required Artillery and Mortar folks to wear helmets at all times despite not being able to use the issues ear protection of the time with them (he eventually lost that one when we threw him under the bus to BGen Ernie Beno the SSF Commander, who was an old E Bty Para guy.)

Then as @OldSolduer mentioned previously he had the most ridiculous fetish with socks. He would have 1CMBG units on parade with FFO and have everyone open their rucks and follow on kit to inspect - and really the only thing he checked was ones socks - and he would lose his ever loving mind if the stitching colors on the pairs was different. He freaked the f out on a Cpl in 1VP who had a medical reason (had lost a toe to a mine) and couldn’t accept that was a legit reason.

He even went so far as to inspect rucks on IRU Companies and would shit himself and assign extras to troops (and officers) that had non issue socks.

Folks actively started go to sick parade to avoid him.

Then come OP Cobra work up he and the then CO of 1VP actively threw a Major, WO and Sgt under the bus for a training death while they where on the range and lied about it.

Fuck him, I hope he rots in Hell.

I think I read about him in books like Tarnished brass... I could be wrong. But you folks have some amazing tales of absolute shit leadership from that guy..

Is this him ?

Quite honestly the fact that Regiments have repeatedly pushed absolute fucking morons and dirt bags higher and higher is my major hate on for the Regimental system in Canada.

Two successive Vandoo Col’s managed to FUBAR the CAR with one idiot replacing the next solely due to when relieved ‘it was still the Vandoo’s turn at command’. Every CA GOFO should have been sacked for that one.

I’d change every single Armour and Infantry unit to 1-140 BN Canadian Guards
(Engineers and Artillery don’t have the same issues from the regimental system).
Then inter post all Infantry Officers and NCO’s to various BN’s and same to the Armour in Armour units.

You should have seen the poster he had made up to combat drugs in 1CMBG.
I should have saved one. IIRC we were required to post it everywhere.
‘‘Twas not a thing of beauty

Say what you like about Jijijijimmy and there is a lot that can be said; a lot that is not exaggerated. But in an organization that often used the expression "train as you would fight", he was one of the few commanders who I've worked for who actually clung to that principle. Unfortunately, he clung a little too tightly. He also seemed to abhor the adage "any fool can be uncomfortable", preferring training that would teach pers to be uncomfortable (cold, wet, tired, hungry, etc) even when it was counterproductive to learning.

Shortly before we closed Lahr, one Friday, I had spoken on the phone with a former boss in Ottawa about my next posting - he had suggested a couple of interesting opportunities and said that he would be speaking to the CM about them. I also had a quick call to the CM (a friend, or so I thought). After work, in the mess, the BComd came up to me, and seeming to enjoy the frivolity of the matter, asked me what I thought about going to work for Jimmy Cox. Seems that my posting message to 1 CMBG had come in. I was not amused then, nor during the posting.

Being a reservist at the time, I never had any time directly or indirectly under him, but I heard all the stories from the Regs and deployed reservists in my orbit. I think it was him I heard about who would hide behind plants in the lobby of NDHQ and jack people up for their dress and deportment, or maybe for wearing non-issued socks.
