Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Even if the Congress flips and limits Trumps abilty to do things, it won't limit what he says and what goes out on social media, which is what most Canadians will consume and not really understand/care about the nuances of the US political system (Hell most can't understand the nuances of our system).

I wonder where I've seen that kind of design before...

If even one house flips the following two years are going to be very, very messy with not a lot getting done.

Those two statements are telling. This seems to be a long term problem in the CAF and the Public Service. If you have the Quebecois language profile you jump up in the promotion line ahead of someone who is more qualified.
It is almost as though restricting management to under 20% of the population isn’t a good thing for getting the most competent people in positions of power.

We are building a CAF and public service which isn’t reflective of Canadian society.

Nobody in the Republicans can whip up crowds quite like Trump. And remember, even Trump lost an election. They are almost certainly going to lose the midterms. The whole thing is Trump, once he's gone, it'll fizzle out.
That’s a hope CoA. The systems that allowed Trump to happen twice, despite an attempt at autogolpe & speaking many of the authoritarian intentions out-loud, is still there to let the next demagogue authoritarian take the reins. We need a defence policy (encompassing defence acquisition) that does not leave Canada at the whims of a Jacksonian expansionist.

I think the order of reductions will be Submarines, Fighters not yet under contract, RCD.

Don't worry, though, new buildings for extraneous headquarters will remain a priority.
Only because CAF will make thise a priority.

We're literally trying to bring them onboard.

I’m just hoping it sticks and that the stink of past political changeability hasn’t jaded industry in the same way as it has many of us on these threads.

To be clear, I’m cautiously optimistic myself. There’s evidence of much more engagement with industry as of late, though it seemed as even Bill Blair was barking up that tree earlier this year. I’ll admit that’s encouraging, but I only have a taxpayer’s skin in the game. You’ll see these reservations listed as reasons why private industry is quite wary about becoming involved in some other government nation building projects (ie pipelines). People are generally a bit gun shy about sinking resources and money into long term commitments when the track record of changing priorities with changing governments have a fair chance of a less than 4 year shelf life.

As I said, I’m appreciative of where they’re at here and I hope they manage to convince needed investors that they’ll be valued partners for the long haul.

I don't think the principle of bilingualism is wrong. What is wrong is imposing such a principle and then not providing enough training to meet it or actively discriminating on hiring prioritizing bilingualism over relevant job qualifications.

This is interesting. The 6 new Global 6500 fleet (+4) will have air 2 air refuelling. Pretty much kicks the E7 in the nuts as far as Canada goes on at least that advantage.

Interesting comment from the General, "“Going from a fleet of four aircraft to six or more " So possibility of additional aircraft down the road?
