Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

Further to the thought

If C-UAS is a cross-domain problem then perhaps cross-domain solutions are a possibility.

The RS4 protector seems to be essentially the RWS on the TAPV as well as many other vehicles.

The PROTECTOR RS4 a highly flexible system designed for small and medium caliber weapons including mounting of coaxial weapons and Anti Tank Guided Missiles. An advanced and modular Sensor suite (Day, Night, LRF) enables unique and tailorable situational awareness. The fully stabilized 2 + 2 Axis (Detached Line of Sight) system enables the gunner to keep his sights on target, independent of ballistic solution for the weapon and ammunition in use. The system is platform-independent and can be operated both by land and sea platforms.

A 5th Generation Open Architecture fully GVA compliant Fire Control System with a user-oriented HMI enables integrations of:

DDS based Integrated Computer Systems (ICS) for exchange of targets and situational awareness
Battle Management Systems (BMS)
Defensive systems support: (APS, laser warning)
Situational awareness support and threats view
The PROTECTOR RWS includes a network-based Fire Control System which enables features like:

Multi User Capability (Commander, gunner and or other Crew members switch control of one RWS)
Multi Weapon Stations (One operator controls several RWS, in vehicle or for Camp- or Perimeter protection)
Network and Wireless operations (UGV or stationary platforms)
Manned-Unmanned Teaming capability for remote control on vehicle or by dismounted personnel

CUAS The PROTECTOR RS4 equipped with ethernet-based Collaborative Fire Control or paired with radar sensors, provides an extremely accurate solution for countering small and medium-size drones. The capability has been combat-proven through operational deployment in Ukraine
...

Is that the basis for training an element of a security force in LAA - C-UAS that can be transposed from a patrol vehicle around the docks, to a boat in the harbour, to a fixed battery on the docks to a ship at sea?

Could the same Fire Control System be used to manage larger calibre weapons as well as missiles and UAVs?

We did just that, Colin. And it worked. But the Reg force only saw the "perma-shads" that were running the MCDV's and how they were getting no replacement - so made them either reg force or else - and lost the majority of reservists who were doing part time work BUT were providing harbour defense teams and harbour inspection dive teams. As a result, they decided to go backwards - to what reservists were in the 60's, 70's and early 80's: augmentees ... that could barely qualify for the jobs they are supposed to augment.
We have meet the enemy and they are us.......

To replace the Sachsen class (F124) AAW frigates. I think they are adding BMD as part of their requirements as well (*reads article) yes they are adding BMD.

That ship is to replace the Sachsen.

Is there a difference in expectations for a patrol vessel and a floating arsenal?

In one case I envisage lots of small vessels equipped for self-defence with a primary mission of establishing presence and maintaining situational awareness. In the other case I would think the main effort is getting as much weight of shot within range of a chosen target as possible.

In both cases I would be wanting to put as few sailors at risk as possible.

Question - does anyone know what the hull numbers are going to be for the Rivers?

I've been scouring images to figure it out, but no luck.

Any ideas?

I don't know with any level of certainty but I think I saw somewhere that it's going to start with 430. Ill see if I can dig something up when I get back from vacation

Sounds like you might know something...
I honestly don't know anything, just suppositions though. @Oldgateboatdriver probably has the reference for how we do hull numbers. I couldn't find it online as Canada doesn't fallow the NATO numbering system.
000 series - Carriers (Warrior 20, Magnificent 21, Bonaventure 22)
100 series - no clue
200 series - Destroyers
300 series - Frigates
400 series - Patrol Vessels
500 series - Supply/Support ships
600 serires - no clue
700 series - Minesweepers
800 series - Submarines

Looks like the 210 and 240 and 290 haven't been used yet. 290s would push them into the 300s, so we're probably going with the 210s or 240 because they have enough numbers there to build 15 without butting up against a used number.
I agree and saw that when I was doing my research. I suspect any CDC's will start in the 350's and the new submarines will start in the 880's.
