Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Look at the PM residence.

On second thought we are spending billions refurbishing parliament hill (which I fully support) with nary a word about it. And I think that’s because it’s our house vice 22 Sussex appears to be a place for privileged people and we have an issue with that.
Refurbishing Parliament happened because there was finally no other option and MPs on all sides could see the evidence of that every single day. But it took them a long time to reach that conclusion which no doubt added to both the cost and time involved.

I was brought in to PWGSC back in the late 90s to consult on a comms mess that had been created when the DG in charge of work being done at the time "misspoke" and revealed what the then cost to do a full rehab was. The Tories jumped on it and there was a big political blow up with the result that a lot of then already necessary work got punted down the road.

I remember being taken on a tour of the active worksites and invited to slide a piece of limestone in and out where the mortar had dissolved it was that bad.

My thoughts on 24 Sussex Drive here: MacDonald: The ideal setting for the prime minister's new home

I propose we have the PM and OLO reside in a split residence. Maybe then getting need repairs and renovations done wouldn't act as such political football both avoid like the plague.

The state of 24 Sussex is an embarrassment.

As I said, they would all be removed. The 'professional' peace time Military would be replaced by a citizen Army. Just like it was in WW1 & WW2.

It would be burned down. Peacetime structures would go out the window, they would have to because not pivoting would invite defeat.

That's why I find that it's a failed experiment... what's the point of keeping the reserves if it's just going to be gutted out?

Also, my last two Mcpls in my regiment were RegF that got placed under contract in the reserves... it's already like this

I find it's a disgrace to have uniformed soldiers, esp. Infantry, to act like little babies...

Dude, I'm in the room ;)

Is that existing infrastructure fit for purpose?

I think @Humphrey Bogart is suggesting you might be able to use them to run recruiting offices.

For training - Back to Valcartier and Salisbury Plain - The good news is you can get an ATCO camp instead of canvas these days.
