I believe pigging also gives you the opportunity to divide the pipeline so that you can pump slugs of different materials and grades through the same pipeline, one after the other.

Yes...that is my understanding as well...but a different type of "pig".

I don't know all the ins and outs....just a common topic with friends working in the oilpatch and get the occasionally end up dealing with some aspects of the industry.

Problem with splitting flows is chemical composition and how to adjust at receiving end. Mix your drink before pouring it down a funnel...not pour rye and then have your buddy add mix after. Drunk engineers should not operate multi-story funnels...

Now, the video above is of a sinkex. The target is not moving nor fighting back, unlike the Iranian frigate in the present case. Add to that the fact that the Iranian frigate is not as big a target as the Amphib in the sinkex and this attack was the first actual operational torpedo firing by a US SSN, and in the end, one miss and a second one close enough for a kill is pretty reasonable.

I don't know if this is the same exercise but different perspectives highlight the violence.

So a very quick and dirty online search gives me this.

1) In 2024 Canada imported about 1.42$ billion USD in oil from Saudi Arabia. Virtually of all this would have have to the East Coast of Canada.
2) Taking the 1.42 billion USD cost and dividing it by an average of say 62$USD/barrel of 2024 and one gest 23.5million barrels of oil
3) Taking that 23.5million barrels of oil and dividing it by 365 days in the year and that works out to be roughly 64,000 barrels a day
4) Since the Gulf of Hormuz is virtually shut right now - according to reports only approximately 13 ships a day are managing to get through vs the 153 on average a day. Its only a matter of time before the EC of Canada begins to feel the pinch of no oil being delivered
5) The Welland Canal is not set to re-open until 22 March, so there is no chance of any oil/gas being shipped from say Sarnia via the Welland Canal and out to the refinery in Saint John's any time soon.

The Irving Oil Refinery in Saint John primarily imports crude oil from Saudi Arabia, which is its third-largest foreign supplier. I guess this will free up a more modern carrier for operations.
The Nimitz was actually underway to the yard where it would have been taken out of service and has been diverted.

Why would an Albertan oil/gas company subsidize the people of Alberta by offering them lower gas prices than what they can get by selling to the open market at a higher price? Are those same ‘no HST/PST’ folks thinking that they are going to legislate companies to sell to the people of Alberta gas at a cheaper price?

The Israel8s bombing a bunch of Iranian oil depots is not helping. Trump will have to release the SPR and immediately prioritize convoys. Good chance we see $120 oil byb the end of the week. Doubling global oil prices in weeks is quite the accomplishment.

So far it’s not looking like the regime itself has been fundamentally disrupted. They kills the Supreme Leader, but not the President nor the others needed for an interim leadership council. They hit the Assembly of Experts building but it doesn’t appear they killed the mullahs themselves. Lots of 2 or 3ics stepping up, but the government is still in place and in power.

I fully plan on selectively adding to some of my positions.
If you own gas/oil stocks/etf/mutual funds they should benefit from this.

Oh, I’ll personally come through this just fine. I don’t try to time anything, I’m just always regularly contributing.
