Iran Super Thread- Merged

Sounds like this fire was more than just an inconvenience to the laundry … 600 sailors now sleeping on the deck and on tables which suggests at least the smoke damaged much more than the laundry room, but not any combat related systems on the ship.

Was just about to post this...

That was quite the fire!

I am not singing up to read, but 30 hours sounds like the time fighting, then overhauling/clearing gases/cleaning.

When PRO had it's fire most of the crew in the after house were forced to relocate because of the smoke contamination. People were living all over the ship, to the point that we started using every magnetic surface in the Cox'n's Office to mark where people were living with the magnetic nametapes we had been using for the bunking whiteboard.

We never recovered the spaces because we lost power, but with power and a massive crew, I can see regaining spaces in 30 hours being reasonable.

'Commanded' but they only ever deployed one ship since 2014. We have to be the only Country that 'commands' without contributing actual assets, as a matter of regular practice.

We have placed caveats on intelligence sharing and are only working the Coast Guard and not Southern Spear aka the US Military.

Op ARTEMIS has been shutdown and the CAF no longer participates in CMF or Maritime Security in the area.

We aren't in step with the Americans on anything really anymore. I would call our participation basically non-existent. They also have talked about kicking us out of the FVEY community.

Canada has culturally and politically diverged away from the United States. That's just a fact, which is why we are dealing with some fairly serious political issues on the home front. Alberta separation being front and centre. I am waiting for the denial currently taking place to be lifted when the real #s come in.
If we have diverged away from the US, what has Oz, NZ and the UK?
Which of these 5 countries have seen a rise in Christian religious fundamentalism throughout one of their main political parties and current government administration’s?

I'm buying the whole aisle of toilet paper at Costco tomorrow.

47 years ago, Obama & Biden started Trump’s war in Iran?

Okay so I've been a "fairly" pro-Trump guy for his second term (by account I think Kamala would have been far worse in a lot of ways...)

But holy flippin' shitballs Batman 😲🤯

Now THAT is some twisted psychological propoganda for the American people!

Because I can GUARANTEE there's a bunch of people out there who only see "Iran + War + No Allies" who will beat their 🇺🇸 chest and support this war who have absolutely NO CONTEXT or understanding of the actual situation

That tweet (or whatever it is) is intended purely for those citizens who don't/won't know any better

Sounds like the Iranians and the US have opened up a comms channel again and according to the US, Iran wants to deal.

When you wipe the upper deck a few times, attitudes can change.

That aged like a milk and surströmming smoothie…

Does that excite you?

To me it looks like it’s time to wipe the upper deck again and then recheck the temperature.

This is fake. We really should be putting something on posts like that so we aren’t contributing to the spreading of misinformation.

Of course he could see it and like it and it could
Be true in the morning.

It's nonsense I wouldn't worry about. And increasingly for all the threats about Canada getting kicked out of the Five Eyes, there's discussions about how we do things in that group sans the grumpy participant. You won't see that in the papers though. There's a reason the PM is visiting other the non-US parts of the club. They all realize they could be targeted too.

Production in the Gulf has reduced by 10 million barrels per day. Flow is down 15 million barrels per day. Even with the release of reserves that deficit is building. For one the reserves themselves are constrained on release. And for another, the reserves don't always account for the exact grade. So i get the fear. I actually think people aren't nearly worried enough about this.

I think Kamala would have been far worse in a lot of ways...

In what ways? I think she would have largely been a status quo President. Would have helped Ukraine, contained China, etc. I'm not sure how that is worse than blowing the stockpile to create a forever war that probably won't deliver the desired strategic outcomes.

Whacking the generals did not end insurgency wars, but this should have a bit of impact against a conventional armed forces.

Not so much the conventional armed forces as the Basij. That is the religious police most responsible for oppression. I think the US and Israel do want the conventional military on their side. It's the only large force that could take down the IRGC.

With authoritarian dictatorships surrounded by weak yes men I can see that being a thing.

Iran, it seems, with its massive political class, ingrained resilient systems/institutions and fanatical theocratic umbrella makes that a bit tricky.

I think with time and effort maybe. But the US is not as keen about a long term commitment to this thing.

Iran was only truly worthwhile, if they were going to commit to the long fight. If not, we now have an actor who has an excuse to be unrestrained. And not just against the US and Israel.

Perhaps not a ‘short-term’ problem for America per se. However, the petrodollar has never been at risk like it is now. If America retreats to frack-frack-fracking and buying 1.5Tbbls of Canadian *WCS a year to flaunt its energy independence, having unbalanced the M.E., it’s only a matter of time until the petroyuan becomes a thing. It’s only a matter of time now, because I don’t think America has enough truly-strategic vision to keep the petrodollar alive.
