Trump administration 2024-2028

So if the job of ICE is to apprehend illegal immigrants, how many do they expect to find at an airport? I would think illegals would be avoiding airports, and anyone with irregular travel documents could be handled by existing infrastructure.
ICE is being used to plug a hole left by congressional funding lapses that has TSA officials off work. They won’t be there in their own specific role, though I’m sure they’ll do that too.

It sounds like senate Dems have been trying to pass measures to pay TSA agents during the DHS shutdown, but they have been voted down by Republicans.

If the staff at Dunkin don't want to be tear gassed they should have given me extra crem cheese on my bagel.
"Look man, I don't care if she's going away to college in Australia, you don't get to film me. And as for your grandma, she shouldn't have mouthed off like that."

The Dems want to fund the various agencies, while putting some constraints on ICE. The GOP don't want the constraints.

Why exacrly?

From what I can tell, the Dems want to withhold funding to DHS until the department can make reforms to ICE so it behaves like a regular law agency that treats people like human beings. The problem is this will shut off funding for TSA at airports and cause mayhem there. The Republicans don’t want to help the Dems on this because that would give them a win. The White House’s solution is to deploy ICE to airports to do TSA’s job while TSA is off work.

At least that’s what I pieced together…

I look forward to them bringing the same level of professionalism to their TSA work as they have to their ICE work.
Nothing says 'welcome to America' like a bunch of masked guys wearing mis-matched 'uniforms' standing around with thumbs in their SBA.

Considering the number of stories going around of people with valid documentation to be in American being nonetheless apprehended and detained by ICE, I can see a bunch more people avoiding airports now for fear of being arbitrarily detained (or even just harassed) by ICE. If even they put out a very clear bulletin that "ICE Agents will NOT be doing "ICE" duties and will only be doing security screening", people won't trust them and will avoid airports out of fear.

I don't believe that the ICE personnel is even trained (let alone, properly) in all the rules that pertain to what can or cannot be brought in the secure area when going through screening, nor are there any of them trained in the art of spotting unusual airport behaviour, as a certain number of TSA or customs agents are.

We will process through US border and customs on Fri. We're all a bit nervous TBH.

People are straight up uncomfortable going to the US right now. We had an extremely hard time getting a full side together.
I can understand 'anger' but what are they 'uncomfortable' about? I've been having to drive down to rural, small town PA since my daughter started playing soccer at a US university back in August and I have to say that we've not have any issues at all.

I believe that you're heading to Boston, I place that I know very well since I've lived there in the past and my wife is from there and lived there for 20 odd years. Boston is one of the few large cities, the other being Seattle, where I think you will be overall welcomed as a Canadian and will find things to be as there were 2+ yrs ago. I might be wrong of course and you might come across an asshat or two, but I really don't think you'll have anything to worry about.
