Skies Magazine has an article on the Cormorant's almost new builds at IMP Group in Halifax in the Dec-Jan edition. Interesting read!

I didn't realize that the existing cormorants would be stripped for parts and rebuilt on new airframes. I thought it was an upgrade program for them and then 3 new aircraft bult from new and existing parts.

I get this:

go to skiesmag.com and look for the newest issue

The article in the Dec/Jan2026 issue of Skies magazine is excellent. (Skies Magazine) I had some sense that the "upgrade" was more of a rebuild but was surprised to read that the airframes are entirely new build. Understanding this, perhaps the EH101 should have a higher profile in the nTACS project as an already "mostly made in Canada" option.

The article also raises the interesting implication of possible SAR requirements to support the potential (probable?) significant increases in RCAF artic flight ops as the fighter fleet is renewed. Wishfullly thinking, perhaps another 3-4 units could up being acquired.

…or, let the sponsor and project staff follow the process for implementing tactical aviation specific future capability for nTACS. Just because something is good at non-combat SAR (or MH) doesn’t mean it will be good in a ta rival environment.

Certainly something worthy of considering…possibly tied to FFCP.

RCAF fleet growth needs to have parallel FACT growth. More platforms without the capacity to train sufficient pilots will be a fail.

Wait…what…is this new? Not matching training capacity to operational units can cause bottle necks?

I was assured CMP has a magic closet filled with Majors, and they just have to sprinkle magic occupation dust on them.

I have also heard of project Senior Review Boards where the CMP rep pointed out that personnel are a long lead item, so if you want a major tomorrow, they had to be recruited fifteen years ago. I have also heard that CRCAF (an ACSO) yelled at the CMP rep.
