Army Reserve Restructuring

Tale as old as time haha. What are the big things missing? Hoists/lifts? Smaller stuff like tooling?
Hoists, more bay space, I know my unit is dealing with bays designed in the 80s, built in the 90s, we can barely get a MSVS or TAPV through the bay door, let alone have space for it to turn into a maintenance bay

It's time to build tank sheds, preferably sized for for a BOLO MK XXIII .
Seriously it's time for some major reserve infrastructure programs.

Sorry best we can do is spend 0.5 billion dollars setting up a quary for Halifax stone and another 0.4 billion to rebuild an armory for a regiment that refused to deploy in both world wars.

Infrastructure issues have long been identified. Its a matter of budget and political will to get it done

Is that the same one with a fire conveniently timed for the end of renovations, ensuring that the renovations will be ongoing for another decade or more?

Ive been working on a briefing note to try and get two bays of our four bay TAPV barn converted into a maint depot for the local Svc Bn, the need is coming whether we're ready or not. Not like we're gonna have more than two working TAPVs at a time anyways lol.

I think a line has to be drawn in the sand with some facilities that while adding to the historic vibes of many cities/towns that bulldozed their main streets in their 50s shouldnt be taking up most of the budget for the year/years. We need facilities that support national defense just as much as they support the history that occupies them. Room for simulators, classrooms, and temporary quaters. Not necessarily however needing to fit the Canadian militaries latest version of HG Wells land ironclads through the front doors.

For example is there much point at all to be maintaining CFB Esquimalt's living museum of RN North America Station era buildings?

I cant speak for others but we have identified for years that our facility isnt sustainable. With the new tasks and growth plan, its rapidly going to become a liability to proper training. Ours isnt an ancient heritage building, however building a new facility for the reserves has never been a priority. If they want 2 Div taking over DOMOPs, they better make it a priority soon.

Infrastructure for the entire CAF is desperately in need of updating to meet the needs of the CAF, the army reserve needs to get in line with everyone else, and hope that a politically important riding is close enough for money to flow.

which goes back to what the priorities of the army are. if you want a ARes service battalion to supply all 1st line and some 2nd line support, we need facilities to do that, especially if you want techs forward deployed during fire, flood etc. Shiny new armoury for infantry units or CSS? I know which one should be higher on the priority
