How many people were driven into weird corners of the internet because having a rational discussion at that time was impossible. If you weren't 100% on the side of the government, you were an enemy of science and likely a racist...

Maybe he was already in those weird corners long before it COVID, but are the experts looking into how society's collective and loud demonizing of anyone not "toeing the line" may have created an extremist problem that is just now bubbling up?

Knowing people who knew him, "weird corners of the interner" wouldnt be the start of it.

Speaking to people who work in counter radicalization. Rarely is something like covid the starting point, more just opening the flood gates, especially during covid when troops were at home and on the internet constantly

It goes beyond one person, AB has a racism and antisemitism problem. Just look at separatists, and their written plans for if they win. It is a mind set, and its predominantly in rural AB. Friend of mines son is half Philippino, and living in Sylvan lake is almost daily racism. Unfortunately I see this also bleed into the CAF, frequent investigations, lack of cultural awareness. This is something that will take generations to change.

LOL, the country has similar concerns, its not just Alberta. If you think Alberta is only place in Canada that more then likely is the problem. Point fingers and ignore your own backyard.

I do not care where you are or who you are. Views contrary to others is across the board. Some cultures look down upon others.
It really is not acceptable at any level or any place. But it is here, Just work with Caucasian Females in Supervisor positions with Foreigners working for them. I seen it first hand over and over again.

In the radicalization context, society is now facing the reality of a generation and a half raised as internet natives, with ready and unsupervised access to awful online spaces that have matured and evolved for years in the Darwinian world of ‘awful ideas’. We have both kids and also now adults raised on a diet of the most malicious disinformation by predatory actors and grifters, inculcating foul beliefs that metastasized well beyond the initial audience. We have rampant and sometimes deliberate desensitization to horrendous violence. We have constant ‘othering’ and dehumanizations along all manner of social, gender, economic, religious, political, and cultural lines. All the people who used to be the school loner or misfit now find and reinforce each other, build their own communities with radically different values, and in some cases celebrate and glorify those who become literally murderous.

Most of the kids are still ok, but a lot aren’t, too many parents are abandoning too many kids to hours in their rooms on the internet, and they’re getting badly fucked up. A relatively rare few violently radicalize, but even that relatively rare few have become a huge problem staring educational, social, and even law enforcement and intelligence resources.

yet when someone tries anything to get things under control e.g. no cell phones in school, there is a very large group that gangs up on them and there aren't enough people who speak out on behalf of the 'good' side, either that or they do speak out but the news doesn't present there point of view. Just before covid I attended a seminar for two days with CFINTCOM'S OSINT group. The 2 hour discussion on vetting sources and looking for the tell tale signs of information operations and fake websites was eye opening. When ever ive had the ear of higher I try to make a point it should be taught on every bmq.

Info space diet and hygiene would actually be a really good value add for recruits. Our troops are both valuable and often vulnerable. They tend to be young, wanting to believe in something, wanting some purpose, and wanting to belong to and associate with something bigger. Those are good things generally, but they offer target points for the other guy.
