Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Trotting out the old time favourites ...

Billions more for defence, but Canada's military still faces an old budget squeeze

Operational spending review comes as expenses grow for salaries, equipment

The Canadian military is on the verge of another round of internal belt-tightening, despite an enormous influx of cash from the federal government, CBC News has learned.

It appears to be a combination of past and current budget initiatives colliding with the expectations and demands associated with the gush of defence spending.

The Department of National Defence has been told to focus its billions of extra dollars on priority areas, including the purchase of much-needed new combat equipment.

That explains the major savings that reserve COs have been told to find. Seems like an oversight on the part of ADM(Fin).

"Major savings", is it.

What fraction of a Res F unit budget (the part under the control of a CO) is not Class A pay?

Hey man, thats just what Ive heard. Exs and especially TDs are apparentlyon the chopping block. If that actually happens is a different story.

I have many beefs with ADM Fin, but this sounds more like every L1S assuming unlimited money for their pet initiatives.

A CAF at 2% GDP would not require a lot of growth, just a lot of investment in equipping the force with sufficient depth for combat loss replacements and adequate sparing, plus actual ammunition holdings.

LOL they ran out of money that they said they had.
One thing for sure every few years they rinse and repeat the same things over and over. Then wonder why they can not retain Reservists.

How many courses are going to get cancelled? How many training nights exercises are going to get cancelled?
Or is this just an accounting error that will fix it self.

Domestically built UGVs.
