Unrest in Haiti, Again

The gangs can surrender their weapons. The gangs can leave Haiti and venture to Russia or Africa to join the Russian mercenaries there in any one of a half dozen countries. Or the gang members can die. Thee is no other choices available that would allow Haiti to become a successful member of society. I don't know how many of you actually got in country when Canada deployed to help in Mali but if anything, Haiti is worse although not by a lot. They are both cesspools. Been to both. You don't go anywhere by yourself and without an armed guard

I wonder if these gangs are about to receive a very large dose of "find out".
Well, additional soldiers from El Salvador are apparently enroute now, with support from the Americans.

Looks like this incident is being used as casus belli to go in and clean house so to speak.

I wouldn't go into with anything less then a Corps and disturbingly broad ROE and a commander with complete independence answerable only to the CDS and the Government.
We don't have a Corps and the other two conditions will never happen .

Not the bodies afterall!

Our former Governor-General, Michaelle Jean says the investigation into the assassination will require international support because the country's national police service has been infiltrated by criminal organizations https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/mi...sassination-president-investigation-1.6094891

I would not be surprised if she is right now talking to the PM about sending Canadian support of some kind (Military, RCMP, Financial...)
Oh shit, here we go again. What troops etc? Log sp? Votes bedammed, Carny should ignore this CF IMHO.

Make a commitment to take over the government, military and police force for 40 years, focus on incremental improvements while you educate the next generation into the leaders capable of running the country properly. Start by allowing municipal elections, then provincial and then finally Federal. Be prepared to come down hard, but at the same time build roads, electricity, schools, clinics. Leave the feel good and Kumbya behind. Otherwise stay out and just air drop some occasional aid.
Stay out, no aid.

That was 5 years ago. I’m guessing we’re not sending anything there any time soon.

Yeah, I don’t think we’re likely to have any political appetite for military involvement in Haiti again any time soon. We continue to have some civilian cops deployed either into Haiti or to units in the region supporting ops there, but there’s nothing in our national interest to be gained by CAF boots on the ground.

First engagements between El Salvadoran special operations forces broke out last night. There is video footage circulating of El Salvadoran SOF entering Croix-des-bouquets in Port-aux-Prince and engaging the Gangs.

Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic is moving military forces towards their border with Haiti and has pledged to support El Salvador in its operations against the gangs in Haiti.

The US and American backed mercenaries are allegedly providing drone and air support.

I agree. This is an uncomfortable subject for many but, backed by various academic literature, the estimated average IQ in Haiti is anywhere from 67 to 76. So in a country of 12 million people, 6 million are considered borderline intellectually disabled (mentally retarded).

The country is fundamentally incapable of governing itself as a result and its population is incapable of intellectually supporting even the most basic of services.

Close the borders, blockade the place and let it be done with.

Sadly they (El Salvador, Dominican Republic and any other country willing to get involved) need to find a local gang leader who is not completely psycho and barbaric and somewhat competent, support him and allow him to suppress the other gangs, while keeping him and his followers on a somewhat tight leash. Once they get the security under better control, start rebuilding basic services, tolerate a certain level of corruption and cronyism. Focus on basic education and trades, with a small university focused on producing doctors and civil engineers.
After 10 years of the above, introduce basic elections for municipal councillors and mayors. After another 10 years, introduce state/province level election to advise the standing Cabinet. At some point when things are working, you retire the General for life and his cronies with a funded retirement somewhere else.
The Army and Federal Police remain in control of the outside forces who appoint key leaders, eventually allowing Haitians to slowly work their way up, till they are ready to take over the jobs without immediately trying to have a coup. Sort of how the British ran their colonies in the 20th century.

appointing anyone to be a dictator for 10 years means you are appointing a dictator for life. Much as I hate to suggest this, the appointmee must come from outside the country, be backed by a disciplined and well equipped military and have pre-determined quite strong powers that diminish over time according to a pre-determined schedule. It would be risky but a UN appointed governor might be best. (trusting the UN is the scary part)
