The War in Ukraine

we do kind of look cheap in that list though.
In THAT list we do. Overall I think our contributions have been pretty similar to some of our NATO allies tho.

(We haven't just been donating our own kit to them. For example we've bought them over 1000 armoured vehicles from Roshel, bought them a NASAMS system, etc. Neither of which we have in our inventory)

Having a steady build rate to feed the CAF and the Ukrainians is the ideal, start by splitting the production between both, build up CAF stock to required levels, then retire the oldest AFV's, sending some to Ukraine and others into war stock storage or a training squadron for Reserves.

Do the same with Roshel products with those mainly going to the Reserves.

Then the same for logistical trucks and MILCOTs

No reason to buy shitty gear for the Reserves.
The Reg and PRes should have the same gear - or just get rid of the PRes.

There is always cash, whoops, sorry, not much inventory there either. GDLS is laying people off in London, maybe a contract to build vehicles for Ukraine would be in order.
theyre building 79? for Ukraine of the ACSV 39? delivered. They must have a couple hundred more to build?

Maybe they should look at a true next generation LAV?

Roshel stuff is not shitty gear, just not high end. We do not have the budget to equip the Reserves properly with high end gear and give them the support that they would need. Hell even the Regs struggle with that burden. The RCN, RCAF, HR needs and military infrastructure upgrades are going to consume the majority of the coming budgets, what goes to the army will mostly to reequip the Regular Force. To equip the Reserves and allow them to function and keep vehicles on the road, they are going to need simpler, lighter and more commercially repairable vehicles, both AFV and non-armoured.

I respect your opinion on a lot of stuff, but you and I will have to just accept we disagree on this point.

Also keep in mind that while we talk about all things military in these parts, Canada hasn't been doing tooooooooooo bad compared to other countries (around CAD$10.6 billion to the end of February of this year) when it comes to helping UKR in a variety of ways outside of military help.

Source (which also has cool lists of countries by number of tanks, AFV's and guns sent over, too)

Meanwhile, in other news, this from USSR 2.0 state media:

Yeah, I'm sure that's why that side is doing that - how do you say "psychological projection" in Russian?

How does the Roshel Senator compare to the Gwagen would seem to be the question as that is the vehicle it is replacing?

As I write there is an autocarrier burning off the west coast that is carrying several hundred electric vehicles. Given the propensity of Lithium batteries to burn uncontrollably what is the failsafe that is protecting Genesis when the inevitable shell hits that long and inviting fore-deck?

im ambivalent on the battery operation to be honest. Im not sure battery vehicles have a propensity to burn but when they go up its a problem

You are still not getting it.

There is a need for people willing to support the government beyond filling in blank files left by dead regulars.

This is why I am adamantly opposed to the renaming of the Militia as The Reserves.

It is also the reason why the US States forced the distinction between their active militia, the National Guard, and the federal/ized force. And why the US Army maintains its own federal Reserves of ex-regulars.

....

There is nothing wrong with focusing spending effort on the Regular Force, and supplying additional funds for spares.
There is nothing wrong with approaching the militia / National Guard and asking for volunteers to support the Regular mission, or even the Regular mission overseas.

But

There is also nothing wrong with maintaining a volunteer capability with other tools appropriate to the domestic challenges they might face.

....

There are other tasks beyond playing backup to Uncle Sam and swatting Russians in Latvia.
