Argentina....well, Argentina is Argentina and is still in the G20. Canada could have it's GDP cut in half and still comfortably be in the G20. People underestimate just how big the Canadian economy is.

I think deeds not words is a very healthy viewpoint to take.

That said, Carney hasn't passed a budget yet. Carney hasn't had time to implement his policies.

Lets consider it this way, if we had PMPP right now, you would be saying give PP time, he needs time to undo the "last 10 years of LPC mismanagement" or something to that effect. PMMC also need time to implement his policies and strategic vision for Canada, even if he is from the same party as former PMJT.

I think if I were one of those websites that determined whether politicians kept their promises I would chalk this under "promise partially kept"

Did he do it? yeah. Is it the 20 percent across the board that he promised? No. Is it a good thing overall? Yes. Will some people still grumble? Yes.

Frankly I think it's significantly better policy than a blanket 20% across the board. It helps to incentivize and disincentivize some of the right things.

Its the old adage:

"You can't please all of the people all of the time, but you can please some of the people some of the time."

If Carney gave a 40% raise across the board, I have no doubt that there would still be some people complaining that it wasn't enough.

I don't know of ANY business that would ever consider giving a 20% rise to its Sr Mgmt team at the same time as giving its lowest paid employees a 20% increase as well. With a leadership role comes that understanding that you can't be seen as getting the same sort of increase in perks as those at the bottom levels.

I'm just glad that an overall positive step in the right direction has occurred.

Its also nice that it looks like its going to be hitting the bank accounts right before back to school occurs, hopefully some families will be in a better position to put some smiles on the faces of their kids before school starts - whether is a quick unplanned family vacation somewhere or an extra pair of new jeans or new shoes or whatever.

This pay increase spreads the wealth in an effective way that throws a bone to pretty much the entire CAF, while taking away the free ride others were exploiting.

The blood-curdling screams will be few and far between with this, I reckon. I stand to make a modest increase in income, even with the loss of 827 a month in LDA. I know I'm not the anomaly in this either.

Will be interesting to see over the next 4-12 weeks what this does in terms of creating new 'foot traffic' on the CAF recruiting website and/or offices. A starting pay of 52k/yr for a PTE is a solid starting salary.

Most businesses do, if anything the executives get more raises than the bottom levels by a long shot.

For example my brother worked at Marks during the pandemic. Management was telling them there was no way they could give the workers a raise due to the pandemic. Most of his coworkers bought that excuse. My brother being a bit more aware than his colleagues asked why they weren’t getting a raise when the company was making record profits. They then shut down all discussion on the topic.

The myth that management will suffer to protect the workers is nonsense. There is a reason the wage gap between the top and bottom keep growing and has been steadily growing for 50 years, it isn’t because management cares about optics.
