18 Aug 2025: Poilievre/By-election in Battle River–Crowfoot (AB)

If this indicates an end to the “honeymoon” the CPC are in more trouble than anyone thought…;)
Circling back to PP, it will be interesting seeing him navigate this new reality.

I think ever since becoming leader of the CPC he's either drawn even or above Trudeau. Never seen him operate from behind before.

I am doubtful he changes his MO though. He's a bit of a one trick pony in that sense.

What is the Executive Branch in Canadian politics. Who is it and under what authority do they govern? What are their powers to make laws or implement policy without Parliament?
That would essentially be Cabinet - specifically King/GG, PM and Cabinet.

LATE ADD: They don't make laws, they implement the laws passed by Parliament - they can do things like Orders-in-Council, regulations and stuff like that, though.

All indications show the Republicans will increase their share in the midterms. The majority of Americans are in support of Trump and his approval rating, even according to CNN, is growing steadily with numbers not seen since FDR.
38% as per polling on July25. very FDR like

Tanks BG. I don't think I've ever heard it used here. Education is good.

I wouldn’t bet on that.

Tariff impacts are starting to hit our shelves and that is going to keep hurting him, and increase the bleeding.

Most Americans support some of POTUS policies, but are very aggravated with others. If the Democrats were not busy imploding nationally, there would be larger issues. Regionally Republicans are in trouble most areas.

Plus firing people because you don’t like the data isn’t exactly endearing.
We'll see.

I only ask because everytime I use an American political term to describe something here, we get two pages of indignation about me using the term. I have never heard of the PMO (if that's who it is) described as the Executive Branch.

Just asking for clarification of the term as it applies in Canada.

The Cabinet, including PCO, the PM and his PMO, and the GG and her office. Through cabinet this also includes the various functioning ministries and departments, including Treasury Board.

The executive branch acts within the authorities Parliament grants them via legislation and funds via the main and supplementary estimates, as well as to a much more limited extent through certain crown prerogatives. But the vast majority of the executives functions stem from legislated responsibilities and funding.

Bread Guy beat you.😉 but tanks.

I mean, if you can point to a poll from a reputable pollster that shows PMMC or the LPC dropping support like you're saying they are, I would personally love to see it.

Otherwise I'm just going to continue to think PMMC is doing just fine and Canadians are generally supportive of the job he's been doing.

I'm glad for you.

FWIW, 338 Polling aggregate modelling shows LPC would take a rather decisive majority if an election were held today. It’s a significant improvement on the result of the election that was just held.

Knowing that we’re at least a year from another kick at the cat, PMMC has time and space to work with.

It's summertime. Most people aren't thinking about it and there is no one to hold him accountable. He should enjoy it while he has it.
