Prime Minister Mark Carney rolled out a series of measures on Friday that he says will transform Canada's economy into a force that can withstand the trade shocks of the Trump administration.

The measures announced in the strategy have been targeted to specifically help workers and businesses that have been most impacted by U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs and trade disruptions.

"If you look back over our country's history, we have turned challenges into opportunities," Carney said in Mississauga, Ont. "And now, at this moment of profound change, we bear the same responsibilities and we should have the same ambitions as those who came before us."

A noteworthy part of the plan is to pause the electric vehicle (EV) mandate, a demand by the auto industry. The strategy waives the mandate for the 2026 model year and launches a 60-day review of the policy.

Pretty wild to see that the government invited Toronto Police Association to meet with several cabinet ministers on that.

As I and others have said a few days back- the federal government can make whatever changes it likes to legislation, the provinces better be prepared to pony up and resource it. It’s already underresourced as is.

CUSMA is the only thing stopping Trump from targeting all Canadian and Mexican products. It would be gone in an instant if it didn’t have tRump’s name on it.

The problem isn't the EVs themselves its the mandate.

People don't want to be told what they have to buy, and people like options. And its really what has polarized this whole issue, IMHO.

If we could have just let the auto sector produce them as an option and let them mature into something that could rival/beat an ICE vehicle in all aspects this would all be for not. But no, we have to use a hammer.

I believe judges and courts that hear criminal cases fall under the provinces. Call your MLA.

I think an unintended consequence of the constitutional division of duties for criminal proceedings (Feds makes the laws, provinces administer them) is it allows the Feds and the provinces to point fingers at each other when things go pear shaped. The devil is in the details do determine who is responsible for what inadequacy.
