Do you think military service should manditory in Canada?

I've never read up on other countries dealing with it.

I think our problem is largely with the CAFs risk aversion. That's combined with medicals policy to essentially just believe whatever they're told by someone coming in.
("Even if someone is obviously lying there must be a reason they're lying so it's still an issue").

Add Calian doctors into the mix who may not get the bigger picture of giving out of shape soldiers consecutive 30 day no PT chits.

I'm sure everyone deals with it, we just have a very low bar for MELs and TCats.
Many MOs are unfit, if memory serves.

I can't believe this is becoming a topic of consideration, largely promoted by people who were never conscripted themselves of course, but I guess we ran out of bad ideas ;)

I think voluntary programs like the NEP are likely more palatable. One year of service then stay, go, or go part time. This has been hugely positive for the Navy. The Army and Air Force have to figure out how their version works, and then get moving.

Make it a reserve thing. Do basic and a soldier qualification. Maybe CWO.

Do a year with a major ex at the end. Get offered to stay on or go reg force. If not you go on a new supp reserve homeguard list in case we need you and thanks for your service.

And a medal. Never forget the medals ;)

National military service of one year for young Canadian men and women.

Like the old song,

Goodbye Dear, I'll be back in a year
'Cause I'm in the army now.
They took my number right out of the hat
And there's nothing a guy can do about that.

Army recruit explains his three reasons for enlisting,

"First, I'm patriotic. Second, I love my country. And third, they nailed me".

I'm late to the party, but it was the French Empire. Then they lost, because supporting an armed revolt inside your enemy's borders can sometimes come back to bite you.

The French (Bourbon) victory enabled the Brits to ignore the Americas and focus their efforts on the French (Bourbons).

And I think we have to extend the terms of service and what a qualified candidate looks like.

What happens if you give Rocky live rounds?

Are you surprised ? Our older generations have already mortgaged my great grandkids fiscal futures ?

They/we have done nothing to prepare the country for this moment and they/we want everyone else to pick up the tab.

Maybe it's time to take voting rights away from anyone born before 1990. We obviously can't be trusted to lead the country into the future.

If that happened then the other generations would no longer have the boomers to blame for every election even though the other generations already outnumber boomers so are the ones that really control who gets elected. Hell, with that plan hardly anyone would vote as most of the people voting are from prior to 1990. Last election i saw one younger person at the polls and that was because I harassed her into voting (my daughter).

The Stats Canada data would support this hypothesis:

0 to 19 years old = ~8.5 million
20 to 64 years old = ~25 million
65 to 100+ years old = ~8.1 million

Younger voters outnumber boomers by a factor of 3:1. We're not the problem.
