Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco (R ), a GOP candidate for California’s governorship, seized more than a half million ballots from a November special election to approve redrawing congressional districts in a way that favored Democrats.
Bianco said his probe was sparked by a local elections group that claims the results were off by 45,800 votes. This group was looking at the difference between handwritten ballot intake logs, and the total number of votes reporter to the state.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) and Riverside County Board of Supervisors, Registrar of Voters Art Tinoco say, however, say the differnece was just around 100 votes. The measure was approved in the county by more than 80,000 votes.
Bianco has defended his actions and said it has nothing to do with his campaign for governor.
