3 VP CO & RSM relieved of duty

There was a rumour they had a beer in a bus and got ratted out

General consensus I've seen so far is:
-the soldier who reported it is a rat/blade.
-'just the boys having a road rocket' vibe
-that guy better put in his VR

We keep telling our soldiers 'if you see something, say something, then act surprised when they do.

I think theres some nuance between reporting misconduct and a beer with the team on a vehicle youre not driving, but are you commanding.

I think it's a great way to build camaraderie.

Being ultra vigilant with the see something say something stuff I can see younger or less experienced soldiers not easily understand that nuance.

There is a fine line.

Our facility went non smoking and the older folks found places to indulge. Some junior staff might have ratted them out.
But the same junior staff wouldn’t report staff smoking weed at work.

There is also the liklihood that the CO and RSM disciplined soldiers for alcohol misconduct, and one of the troops had a chance to get back at them.

Wouldn't be the first time someone's been caught in a rules for thee not for me moment. However to warrant the div commander removing them, I feel like the situation that created this might be a bit bigger then we know

Or…hear me out….there are other reason(s), other than random internet rumours.

Point is- unless you are the affected CO, RSM, or Div Comd making the decision, we don’t know.

Authorities question — why the Div Comd? QR&O 101.09 seems to state authority is Army Commander for CO, Brigade Commander for RSM. Or am I looking in the wrong place?

Generally, the positions of Div Comds are designated as holding the powers of an officer commanding a command.

Keep in mind in most provinces and states that open liquor in a vehicle is a criminal offense.

I am always confused that some busses actually have liquor licenses - in places that by letter of the law that is not allowed.
Which inspires FIDO...

At Christmas, we used to take Sunnybrook war vets for an after dark bus tour to see the bright lights.

If they wanted to bring "Holy Water" along for the ride ...

And don't even think of telling them to extinguish their cigarettes. < lol emoji

It was a different time.

At this point the alcohol story is still a rumor.

Suppose it's accurate though and like you suggested maybe a soldier is reporting them because they themselves got in trouble for alcohol misconduct. Are they being a rat or are they holding senior leaders to the same level of conduct they were held to?

Rumor mill again, I've seen comments that the alleged beer on a bus may have happened while in Latvia. Not sure if we still do but recently enough we've sent soldiers home for violating the AO alcohol policy. If there's truth to that rumor that would bump the severity up.

I agree.

I remember driving guys so pissed they were doing exactly that over the tailgate of the deuce , while hanging on to the troop strap .

Surprised none ever went overboard , that I am aware of.

Open liquor in a vehicle in Canada is a provincial offence, not criminal.

With that said under NDA it could be criminal through application of service offences like S.93 Disobey Lawful Order if such an order applies.

Also I recognize I’m being pedantic, sorry.

Thanks -- these days I mess up a lot of Canadian Law, due to having to flush it to retain State/Fed and Misdemeanor v Felony Criminal stuff.
