Looking for a Supply tech/MMT who can speak about their experience on QL5

Good afternoon,

I recently finished my MMT QL3 and I'm looking to possibly go on course to do my QL5.

I have heard from some people that QL5 is considerably harder than QL3 for supply techs and that apparently a decent amount of people struggle on it. Every course is different and I have no clue how much truth there is to it but I would really appreciate being able to talk to someone that did it recently.

Admittedly, it's been a very long time, and two different CFSSs, since I completed my 5s.

That said, your success on the 5s will largely be determined by how much experience you gain between your 3s and 5s.

Supply is an absolutely massive trade with a wide range of roles and responsibilities. Warehousing, HAZMAT, and Purchasing are all substantial fields in their own right. I'd strongly suggest getting on your local QL4 program as soon as possible and starting to rotate through the different sections to gain as much exposure as you can.

Not to give your hopes up but QL5 has a very long waitlist, so chances or you be nominated and getting course loaded are very slim right after ql3, I've been waiting 2 years and just got my first nomination for it, and my CM said a possible 4 year wait as of Jan this year.

As Halifax Tar mentioned, ask your unit for QL4 type training (ql4 doesnt exist anymore but some units still have rotational training between sections)

Personally the hardest part of QL5 in my mind is local purchasing as not many mmt's have experience in it and typically don't touch it until after ql5, if your lucky you could be put in LPO before ql5. It has two additional SOP books on procedure the PAM and FAM. there is DLN course that give and introduction to it if you want to do some learning
