Based on the current allocated structure, there is historical precedent to call the formation (as it is now) either 3 Canadian Light Infantry Brigade or 3 Infantry Group. But, the last time CA bundled a bunch of different cap badges into an organization that it called a regiment, that regiment eventually adopted a new cap badge based on the WWII parachute battalion. So, you are probably right.

Was there ever 3 CMBG, wasnt it just 3 CIBG?

And it in fact was heavily mechanized with Centurions, M113s, and brand new M109s. When I was going through the RCSA from 69-70, 3 CG had the primary role of being the reinforcement/replacement organization for 4 CMBG which itself was changing dramatically - moving bases and down-sizing. It was a crappy time to be a soldier.

Formal application to Joint Expeditionary Force announced during Carney's U.K. visit​

Canada has formally applied to join the U.K.-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), a collection of NATO nations whose mandate is to respond more quickly in a crisis.

Prime Minister Mark Carney formally announced the plan on Wednesday while meeting with his British counterpart Andy Burnham.

In a statement, Carney called JEF an "important initiative" and highlighted other close defence ties with the U.K., including Canada's observer status in the development of the next generation of fighter jet.

For the sake of discussion - what would it take to "upgrade" 3 CLIR to 3 CIBG? Are enablers any different from a CMBG beyond weight and scale?

I’m suspect of your Bde’s messaging.

I am generally one of the biggest cynics when it comes to CAF spending promises, but it appears this government is serious.

Now I think the only reasons for it being serious about the CAF are the fact that there will most likely be a war with Russia in the next 4 years, as well as the Administration down here is being downright adversarial.

As long as both those issues are outstanding I think the budget is only going up.

Welllll....

As I recall, the mandays budget per person was (I think) 37 days per year.

By the time the various HQs skimmed off their portion, it would arrive at the unit level as about 27 days, or less. We might see some of this 'skimming' going on in the current 'constraint climate'.

COs who knew how the system worked said 'screw it' and committed as much as was needed to get the job done, budget or no budget.

Others penny pinched and micromanaged to the penny because they fancied themselves highly experienced public sector funds managers (which they weren't).

Regardless, as was traditional, by March there was usually a panic to spend the budget before April 1st
