If there was one thing I could provide as criticism to the college, is that (at least in my day) it put too much emphasis on having academic success with excellent marks. Although I agree that striving to succeed is important, whether you get 74 or 94 as an average, you get the same degree with...
I look forward to the results of this review and if they will produce something of worth, I graduated eight years ago from RMC. And as history shows, RMC gets easier and more relaxed as the years go on, not higher. In my four years there, we had one suicide. As I, like many others, can...
Reading the last reference, I stumbled upon this :
PROMOTION FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE OR GALLANTRY
3. A member may be promoted in recognition of meritorious service or an
act of gallantry; such promotions require the approval of the Minister of
National Defence.
I wonder if this has been...
Up to until 2013 (IIRC) in Valcartier there was one counter for WO and + on top of the other 3 or so counters. I'm not sure why that counter disappeared (it would serve other ranks if no WOs and up were present). TBH I know my opinion will be met with mixed results but it kind of makes sense...
Hello all,
Currently in the process of writing up an Honours and Awards application for one of my soldiers. Now I know that awards are often down graded by higher headquarters. i.e. If the TF nominates someone for a CDS commendation but CJOC H&A committee feels it only merits a CJOC...
Does anyone know the procedure for applying for a reassessment of an existing injury? When I was initially diagnosed and subsequently compensated, I was told that if my condition got worse that I could submit for a reassessment. I've tried calling VAC but the lines seem to be busier than usual...
I suppose I should comment on the actual topic of this thread. I disagree with the fact that we are not getting a 150th medal. I think commemorative medals have their place. The Diamond Jubilee medal was not bad, it was just poorly executed by Canada. I say Canada because I feel the Brits got it...
Just 410 days on two tours, one of them on a combat mission, in 8 years. Oh and all my countless days in the field being in the combat arms... I'm sorry the army doesn't give out badges for days out in the field.
And for the record, you turned this into a "us vs. them" pal. I merely pointed...
Hello, does anyone know what the troops on OP UNIFIER in Ukraine will receive for a medal? I would assume the SSM NATO similar to the guys on OP REASSURANCE?
I had a question on how tax relief works, does the member get his monthly pay of up to 7556$ (I think thats the max) and then the rest of his pay that is taxed. Or does he get his normal pay, plus allowances, and when he files his taxes at the end of the FY he gets a bunch of money back?
Thanks
5 GBMC is supposed to start getting issued these next week over the month of October, apparently they have enough for the whole bde. At least they are starting with the right priorities: Those deploying on OPS, Exercise Trident Juncture, 3x inf Bns, eng, Arty etc...
Does anyone recognize the man on the right? I'm no expert but I question the fact that a Canadian would have a Silver Star, Bronze Star, a purple heart etc... Of course he maybe would have spent time in the US services prior to becoming a Canadian soldier, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts...
I am up to a year now, it took 19 weeks to start processing my file after they received all documents. Then another two months before it was approved. Then another two months before I was a specialist doctor to determine how much disability and it is supposed to be another 16 weeks after that...
I've been a trained officer for 7 years now, it is not all desk jobs. If you join the army and combat arms, regardless of officer or NCM, you will not just ride a desk. Of course in garrison, officers are more likely to work behind a desk, but the NCMs are not in the field at that time, they are...
