I'll echo what's been said before (and as a former instructor on BOTC) - if you don't learn to stay awake and functional without "aids" on a simple, basic course like BOTC, you are going to really have a hard time on MOC training, especially if you're headed for the infantry. Popping caffeine...
Airline tickets to Johannesburg: $2,300
Car rental & gas for the drive to Harare: $550
Sniper rifle & scope: $2,000
7.62mm bullet: 50 cents
A bullet hole in Mugabe's forehead: priceless
All kidding aside, I'm just waiting for the point at which someone in the ZANU-PF nomenklatura figures out...
Maybe the only thing I can add to all that was said is that the Megastructure in St-Jean (which I not so fondly think of as the Megahorror) is probably the worst possible training environment one could imagine, especially for recruits, and that will have a real effect on the quality of training.
There was a time when the Army was hard-drinking and hard-partying. When I was a plt ldr in Lahr in the 80s, I can't remember the number of times one of my troops got into shit (and the MP shack) for getting pissed at the Centennial Club or in town on a Friday or Sat night.
Nowadays, things...
Unless I'm grossly off track, detaching ourselves from the Crown would require an amendment to the Constitution - something which may be rather difficult in our fractious federation.
"An amendment to the Constitution of Canada in relation to the following matters may be made by proclamation...
Funny thing is, 4 CMBG learned that lesson almost 20 years ago during Reforger 88. The Svc Bn and 444 tac hel sqn found out that they weren't immune to ground assault by fast moving en columns, even if they were sitting 20 kms behind the FEBA. But I guess the lesson didn't stick. Made for...
The comments by the politicians and the chattering classes are pretty much what you'd expect. The irony is that a large chunk of our health care system is already two-tier - it just isn't acknowledged.
I hope that this ruling will get the discussion about the future of health care onto a...
And yet, all one has to do is a quick search on the internet:

Of course, all that is not to say that China's record with respect to Tibet since the Communist take-over hasn't been anything short of atrocious, but then...
Considering that I almost got killed by a speeding jackass who ran a red light last year, I have no sympathy. And with the boneheaded driving I see daily during my commute... Anyone running a red light needs to get ticketed and hard - so hard they'll never do it again. As for speeding - the...
Heck, if we're going to get hung up on semantics, let's call 'em freelancers - it harkens back to the days of olde, when nights were cold:

Describes it best: self-employed soldiers working on contract rather than being "employees" of a particular...
And once pointy knives become outlawed, only outlaws will have pointy knives, easily imported from the continent via the chunnel. Those who would have been likely to reach for a knife will reach for a cricket bat and within a few years, wooden cricket bats will be outlawed - only nerf bats will...
Left-lib bias. Everything related to the military is bad, because we all know that war-mongering soldiers start wars, enjoy them to the max and want more - it's good for promotion, to get neat kit and to take-over civilized societies. Therefore, it is best not to teach that part of our...
daniel,
Faut pas oublier que pour bien des gens ici, le français n'est pas leur langue première. Faut plutôt encourager les gens às'exprimer dans leur deuxième langue, non? ;)
Apparently not the fact that PM used outright political bribery to keep himself in power, i.e. he bought his government's stay of execution by buying Stronach's vote with a cabinet post. Judging by a lot of the letters to the editor in the paper this AM, there are plenty of people out there who...
